Early Life and Family
He was on 20 November 1983. Anup Kumar was born and brought up in a small village, Palra, in Gurgaon district. His parents are Ransingh Yadav and Ballo Devi. His father was a former Subedar Major from the Indian Army and his mother was a house-maker. Anup did his schooling from Palra.Â

After his completing his basic education, In 2005, Anup Kumar joined the CRPF as a constable. Though having all the talent and potential Anup Kumar never thought of pursuing kabaddi as a career option, until he met Amar Singh Yadav, Anup’s coach of the CRPF kabaddi team and he was very impressed with Anup’s athletic ability to play kabaddi.Â
Anup Kumar International Career
In 2005, Anup Kumar gets an India camp call up, where he thanked Amar Singh Yadav for providing several opportunities to Anup. In the camp, Anup showed his inherent talent was visible to everyone.Â
Anup Kumar’s first big step towards his international career was to be the 2006 South Asian Games in Sri Lanka. His international career took flight with his golden debut in the 2010 Asian Games.
He won gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 editions of the Games. The 2014 Incheon Asian Games final saw a very closely competed for the match against Iran. The Indian team gave a tough fight and hold on to their lead.Â

Anup Kumar continued his golden run with team India and yet achieved another medal at the 2016 South Asian Games. He was also the captain of team India and led his team to World Cup glory in 2016. His brilliant leadership and the ability to keep his cool in tense situations made earned him the nickname ‘Captain Cool.’

Anup Kumar started his career in Pro Kabaddi with U Mumba in Season 1 and was with them till Season 5.
He was the highest scorer in the inaugural league with 169 points. Kumar led the U Mumba team to three consecutive finals (1,2,3) during which he also led the team to a championship win in Season 2. In 2014, he won the Most Valuable Player of PKL award. He is the only player in the league to have captained a U-Mumba team in three back-to-back PKL finals (S01, S02 and S03).

Despite being a franchise player for the U Mumba in the Pro Kabaddi League, he was sold to the Jaipur Pink Panthers. This hugely disappointed the fans as he led the U Mumba as captain since the inception of the Pro Kabaddi League. In Season 6, he leads the Jaipur Pink Panthers who bought him for Rs30 Lakhs.

On 19 December 2018, he announced his retirement from kabaddi after completing 15 years in the sport.
Soon after Anup Kumar closed the chapter on his glittering career as a player, Along with that announcement, he told his fan that he wasn’t going to lose contact with the kabaddi world. Anup Kumar took over the coaching mantle in vivo Pro Kabaddi with Puneri Paltan team.

Anup Kumar was the highest scorer in the inaugural season of VIVO Pro Kabaddi where he scored 169 points.
He is the only player to have captained aside in three back-to-back VIVO Pro Kabaddi finals (Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3).
Kumar has won two Gold medals with team India in the Asian Games (2010, 2014).
He has also won the South Asian Games Gold medal in 2006, 2010 and 2016.
He won the 2014 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the first season of Pro Kabaddi League.
Anup Kumar was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2012 by the Government of India.
