puneri-paltan-photoPuneri Paltan is a kabaddi franchise that represents the city of Pune, Maharashtra in Pro Kabaddi League. The Pune based franchise is owned by Insurekot Sports, a Mumbai based firm with varied interest in sports. The team is coached by Ashan Kumar and Ashok Shinde and plays all their local matches at Shree Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex. The franchise made its debut along with Pro Kabaddi League and after waiting for 2 seasons they qualified for the play offs for the first time in 2016, and continued their dream run in 2017. For the second time in a row they qualified for the play offs in 2017, but during the 2018-19 season the team miserable failed to even qualify for the play offs.

The Maharashtra based franchise was one of the founding members of the Pro Kabaddi League. Puneri Paltan is owned by Insurekot Sports Ltd. that has contributed a lot in creating awareness about Kabaddi in India. The Talent Hunt and Little Puneri Champs are the initiatives taken by the Insurekot Sports in order to help the grass root players. Through this initiative, they scouted some young players for their squad.

Season 1 (2014)
Puneri Paltan started off the season with utter disappointment. They finished last in the first season of the Pro Kabaddi League. They played a total of 14 matches and won only 2 of them, while 12 resulted in losses. The Pune side earned a total of meager 17 points.

Best Defender– Manoj Kumar (17 points in 14 matches)

Season 2 (2015)
Season 2 nothing different to Season 1 as Puneri Paltan again finished last in the points table with 21 points to their name. They played a total of 14 matches, won 2 matches and lost 11 matches, 1 match resulted in a draw.
Best Raider- Wazir Singh (48 raid points in 11 matches)
Best Defender– Ravi Kumar (33 tackle points in 13 matches)

Season 3 (2016)
Puneri Paltan shocked everyone during Season 3 and reached the play offs for the first time in Pro Kabaddi League history and secured third position in the points table. They played a total of 14 matches, won 7 matches and lost 4, while 3 matches resulted in a draw.

Season 4 (2016)
Season 4 was a mixed bag for Puneri Paltan, but it was time to accelerate and secure the position in the play offs, they choked and finished fifth in the points table. They played a total of 14 matches, won 6 matches and lost the same numbers, and 2 matches resulted in a draw. They ended the tournament with 42 points.

Best Defender Manjeet Chillar (43 points in 12 matches)

Season 5 (2017)
The star performers like Deepak Hooda and Girish Maruti Ernak proved to be the trump card for Puneri Paltan in the season 5 as they easily qualified for the playoffs, but couldn’t reach the finals.
They played a total of 22 matches, won 15 matches and lost 7 and ended with 80 points.

Best Defender– Girish Maruti Ernak ( 61 tackle points in 21 matches)

Season 6 (2018)
The sixth season looked like a fruitful season for Puneri Paltan, but as the tournament reached its climax the franchise lost its way. They played a total of 22 matches in Season 6, won 8 matches and lost 12, two matches resulted in a draw and they ended with 52 points in the table.

Season 7 (2019)
The seventh season wasn’t the best season for Puneri Paltan, but as the tournament reached its climax the franchise lost its way. They played a total of 22 matches in Season 7, won 7 matches and lost 12, two matches resulted in a draw and they ended with 48 points in the table.
