IPL 2020: KKR break Rajasthan’s winning streak, beat the latter by 37 runs

KKR vs RR

Kolkata Knight Riders have ended Rajasthan Royals’ winning streak on Wednesday as all the teams have now lost at least one game in the tournament. KKR beat Rajasthan Royals convincingly by 37 runs to earn their second victory in three games. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have slipped to the third position after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Dinesh Karthik and Co.

Pat Cummins

At a big ground of Dubai, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a challenging total of 174 runs in front of Rajasthan Royals. The approach wasn’t great from Steve Smith, which looked to play shots too early on a slowish surface.

Rajasthan Royals struggled to start off the chase well. Pat Cummins drew the first blood in the form of Steve Smith. Indian pacers, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti stole the show with a superb display of bowling. The duo broke the back of the side by taking important wickets of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Robin Uthappa.

RR were struggling to go past the 100-run mark, however, a strong fightback from Tom Curran (54 off 36) took the side closer but failed to take his side home.

In the first innings, Sunil Narine, once again, fell early. However, Shubhman Gill produced another stellar knock of 47. His inning helped the side keep the scoreboard ticking at one end. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell couldn’t capitalize on the starts they got, but a late flourish from Eoin Morgan helped KKR reach 174 in 20 overs. Morgan scored 34 runs in 23 balls, including one four and 2 sixes.

Kolkata Knight Riders will be up against Delhi Capitals in their next game on Saturday, while Rajasthan Royals will play against Rajasthan Royals on the same day.
