India's men's selection committee named separate One-Day International and Test squads for the tour of New Zealand on 16 October 2026, according to the BCCI. The tour features five ODIs and two Tests, which follow the five T20Is already scheduled.

Shubman Gill will captain the squad for the first three ODIs, with Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain and KL Rahul as wicketkeeper. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both included. Prasidh Krishna is picked for those matches subject to fitness clearance, the BCCI said.

A different group will play the fourth and fifth ODIs, with Iyer as captain and Ishan Kishan as vice-captain. ESPNcricinfo reports that Gill, Rahul and Anshul Kamboj will play only the first three ODIs before preparing for the Test series. Prasidh will also leave the squad after that point.

Wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra receives his first India call-up, for the fourth and fifth ODIs. ESPNcricinfo says he has been in splendid form across formats this year. Auqib Nabi and Yash Thakur are also in the squad for those two games.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the Test squad but in neither ODI squad. Gill captains the Test side, with Rahul as vice-captain. Rishabh Pant is included subject to fitness, alongside Dhruv Jurel as the second wicketkeeper. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj are also named.

The Print, citing PTI, reports that pacers Akash Deep and Kamboj return to the Test squad. Deccan Herald says Akash Deep recently returned to action after recovering from a lower-back stress fracture. It also says Pant picked up a left-side strain during the Irani Cup game in Srinagar, and that Kushagra replaced him for the first two India A four-day games against New Zealand A.

Deccan Herald adds that Prasidh injured his left hamstring in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati on 30 September. Wisden notes that Kishan returned to ODIs in the Afghanistan series in June, his first appearance in the format since the 2023 World Cup, and later scored a double hundred as captain in the Duleep Trophy final.

The ICC says the 12-game tour is the biggest international tour in New Zealand Cricket's history by number of matches. It is India's first Test cricket in New Zealand since 2019. The T20Is begin on 22 October in Christchurch, the ODIs start on 4 November in Auckland at 7:30 AM IST, and the Tests begin on 19 November in Wellington and 27 November in Christchurch.
