Curtis Axel Biography: Joseph Curtis Hennig, popularly known by his ring name Curtis Axel, is an American professional wrestler, currently working with World Wrestling Entertainment for Smackdown brand. He is currently teaming up with Bo Dallas as The B-team. Axel joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 2010 as a part of the Nexus group under the ring name Michael McGillicutty. He became a part of several other groups like Social Outcasts, Miztourage and even started his own hashtag #AxelMania.

Curtis Axel is probably known as one of the prominent figures in WWE, who has been entertaining WWE Universe from the last nine years. Axel started his career in 2007 with World Wrestling League (WLW) and wrestled till 2008. In the same year, Axel signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and was assigned to its developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) where he held FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship once and FCW Florida Tag Team Championship four times with  Gabe Tuft,  Heath Miller, Brett DiBiase, and Kaval.

From 2010 to 2011, Axel was a part of the Nexus team feuded with superstars like John Cena, Randy Orton. McGillicutty teamed up with fellow Nexus member David Otunga to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from Big Show and Kane with help from fellow Nexus members Punk and Mason Ryan. McGillicutty and Otunga lost the WWE Tag Team Championship to Air Boom (Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston).

Axel is a one-time Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) Florida Heavyweight Champion, four-time FCW Florida Tag Team Champion, one-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and two-time WWE (Raw) Tag Team Champion with Otunga and Bo Dallas.

EARLY LIFE

Hennig was born on October 1, 1979, in Champlin, Minnesota. He persuaded his graduation from  North Hennepin Community College with an Associate of Science degree in business computer systems and management. Hennig was trained under his father “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, Brad Rheingans and Harley Race.

PERSONAL LIFE

Hennig resides in Anoka, Minnesota, United States with his wife Brooke. He married her in 2004 having three children. Hennig belongs to a family of wrestling background where “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig is a professional wrestler. His grandfather  Larry “The Axe” Hennig was also a popular wrestler. He has a younger brother named Hank, and two younger sisters named Kaite and Amy.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Hennig started his professional wrestling career in 2007 when he took the training from his father  “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig,  Brad Rheingans and Harley Race. He joined World League Wrestling in 2007 and stayed back till 2008. Hennig signed a  contract with World Wrestling Entertainment for its developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) where bagged the Florida Tag Team Championship with Heath Slater against  Nic Nemeth and Gavin Spears.

Hennig also formed a tag team with  Brett DiBiase as The Fortunate Sons and won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship by defeating The Dudebusters. Hennig changed his name as Michael McGillicutty,  winning the tag team titles with Kaval for the fourth time from Los Aviadores. McGillicutty returned to NXT in 2010 and made his in-ring debut by teaming with Kingston against  Mark Henry and Lucky Cannon in a winning effort. McGillicutty then joined the Nexus group and feuded with legends like John Cena and Randy Orton. In 2011, McGillicutty teamed with fellow Nexus member David Otunga to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from Big Show and Kane with help from fellow Nexus members Punk and Mason Ryan.

McGillicutty bagged an opportunity to enter the Gold Rush Tournament to have an inaugural  NXT Champion, however, he lost to Seth Rollins in the semi-finals and failed to create a history. In 2013, Hennig changed his name from McGillicutty to  Curtis Axel. Axel had very huge debut math against Triple H.  At Payback, Axel defeated Wade Barrett and The Miz in a triple threat match to win the Intercontinental Championship, which was his first singles title in WWE. Axel defended his title against The Miz Wade Barrett, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, and Big E Langston. Axel lost the title to Big E, ending his reign at 155 days.

In 2015, Axel started his own hashtag #AxelMania in which he used to imitate Hulk Hogan while teaming with Sandow. Axel closed his  AxelMania after WWE fired Hulk Hogan. He teamed up with Heath Slater, Adam Rose and Bo Dallas to form a new faction named “The Social Outcasts”. Axel also participated  André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestle mania 32 and 33, however, he lost.

Axel formed a new alliance with Bo Dallas to assist The Miz named as “The Miztourage” in 2017. Both Axel and Dallas helped The Miz in winning matches against Dean Ambrose, Heath Slater and Rhyno Being a part of  The Miztourage, he feuded with The Shield. The faction came to an end after The Miz was drafted to Smackdown. Axel and Dallas attacked The Miz in his final match on Raw.

Axel and Dallas united to form a new tag team named “The B-Team”. They together defeated Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) as a team for the first time. The B-Team won a tag team battle royal to bag the number one contenders for the Raw Tag Team Championships. At Extreme Rules, The B-Team defeated Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt to win the Raw Tag Team Championship. Ziggler and McIntyre defeated  Axel and Dallas to win the titles, ending their reign at 50 days.  At WrestleMania 35, Axel and Dallas also participated in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but failed to win the spot. They are recently shifted to  SmackDown as part of the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up
