And lately, it happened with one of the most popular high flying wrestlers of all time Kofi Kingston.

Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah, better known by his in-ring name Kofi Kingston, is a Ghanaian-American professional wrestler, working with WWE since 2008. From the time Kofi joined WWE, he always managed to turn WWE Universe attention towards him. Kingston holds the list of some unbelievable moves done during Royal Rumble pay-per-view events to avoid his elimination from the contest. 

In the year 2008, Kofi Kingston was drafted to Raw from ECW.  In his first match as a member of Raw brand and first championship match in WWE, he defeated Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship at Night of Champions. In the year 2009, Kingston got an opportunity to compete in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber, however, he was unable to enter the match as he received a surprise attack by Edge, who took Kingston’s place and eventually won the match.

Kingston defeated Montel Vontavious Porter on Raw to win the United States Championship. Later, Kingston defended and retained the title successfully  at Extreme Rules, Night of Champions, Breaking Point, and WWE Hell in a Cell and on several episodes of Raw, before losing the championship to The Miz 

Kofi Kingston along with Big E and Xavier Woods tied together for the group named as The New Day in 2014.

Kofi Kingston has won Tag Team Championship, Intercontinental Championship, United States Championship and is currently the WWE Champion. With all the accomplishments added in his list, Kingston has entered himself as 30th Triple Crown Champion and 20th overall Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah as Kofi Kingston was born in Kumasi, Ashanti on August 14, 1981. Later, Kingston settled down with his family in the United States in the Greater Boston area. Kingston began his training in late 2005 and marked his official wrestling debut in 2006 for Chaotic Wrestling.

Kofi Kingston married actress Kori Campfield in 2010 and has two children with her, in which first child was born in 2013 and the other one was born in 2016. Kofi Kingston’s mother’s name is Elizabeth Sarkodie-Mensah and his father’s name is Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah. Kofi Kingston has two siblings, a brother Kwame Sarkodie-Mensah, who is pursuing a job as a composer and cyber specialist, and a sister named Nana Akua, who unfortunately passed away in the year 2015.

Known as one of the strongest competitors in sports entertainment, Kofi Kingston began his career in 2006 with Chaotic Wrestling. He had also taken participation in National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) – New England, Millennium Wrestling Federation (MWF), New England Championship Wrestling (NECW), and the Eastern Wrestling Alliance (EWA). 

From 2006 to 2007, Kofi Kingston worked under a development contract with WWE for Deep South Wrestling (DSW). Kofi in 2008, was drafted to the Raw brand. In his first match and first championship match in WWE, he defeated Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship at Night of Champions. Kingston and Women’s Champion Mickie James both lost their championships in a “winner take all” tag team match to Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella. 

Kingston was scheduled to compete in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber at No Way Out in 2009, however, was unable to enter the match as he received a surprise attack by Edge, who took Kingston’s place and eventually won the match.

Kofi was drafted to Smackdown in 2010 and won his second  Intercontinental Championship against Christian. Later in 2011, he defeated Ziggler to become the Intercontinental Champion for the third time.

After conquering Intercontinental Championship for thrice a time in WWE, Kofi Kingston won WWE Tag Team Championship with Evan Bourne against  David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty in 2011. Kingston also participated in Royal Rumble and made some stand-out moment to save himself from elimination. 

Kofi Kingston also bagged United States Championship in 2012 and started to become a key wrestler in the WWE industry. Kingston is still remembered for the 11-foot jump to get back in the ring during the Royal Rumble match. He was also enlisted in the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal at Wrestle Mania XXX. Kingston made some standout moment in the match too. However, he was later eliminated by Sheamus. 

The year 2014 brought a drastic change in Kofi Kingston’s wrestler career after he along with Big E and Xavier Woods tied together for a group named as The New Day in 2014. The New Day is currently known as one of the most popular factions in all sports entertainment. The New Day made their in-ring debut in November 2014 on Smackdown with a victory over Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, and Titus O’Neil.  Kingston and Big E also defeated Gold and Stardust at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pre-show on December 14. The New Day are six-time tag team champions, having won the WWE (Raw) Tag Team Championship twice (with their second reign being the longest male tag team title reign in WWE history at 483 days) and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship four times. With the growing popularity among WWE Universe, The New Day bagged an opportunity to host Wrestlemania 33. 

This year came in like a golden year in Kofi’s career after he defeated Sheamus, Cesaro, Rowan, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton in a gauntlet match, and earned a chance to headline Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship. At WrestleMania, Kingston defeated Bryan and won the WWE Championship for the first time, becoming the first African-born WWE Champion in history, as well as WWE’s 30th Triple Crown and 20th Grand Slam champion. Lately, Kofi Kingston defended his title against Orton at SummerSlam where the match resulted in a double count-out.
