Manika Batra Biography: Manika Batra is the top seed Indian female Table Tennis player, who rose to fame after winning Gold at the Commonwealth Games, 2018, and since then there has been no looking back for her. She is one of India’s biggest contender to win a medal at the Olympics 2020.

Manika Batra has revolutionized the game of Table Tennis in the country, which was majorly confined to men earlier, breaking all the myths and taboos related to the game.

The revolution erupted when Manika Batra won three back to back medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, followed by the game reaching its zenith when she won mixed doubles bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang. She teamed up with Sharath Kamal in the event and the pair defeated North Korean pair Cha Hyo Sim and An Ji Song in the quarter-finals.

She is currently ranked 47th in the Women’s World Table Tennis rankings.

The top seed female Indian player was born to Girish Batra and Sushma Batra on 15th June 1995 in Naraina Vihar, Delhi. She is the youngest among siblings, she has an elder sister named Anchal and brother Sahil.

Both her elder sister and brother played Table Tennis, Manika Batra was introduced to the game by her elder sister and what we call it was a love at first sight. The transformation began when she won a game in a state level Under- 8 tournament and she was advised to switch to Hans Raj Model school and train under Sandeep Gupta.

She pursued her graduation from Jesus and Mary College, but dropped out to completely focus on her Table Tennis commitments. She was offered multiple modeling assignments from Delhi and Mumbai, but she denied following her passion towards Table Tennis.

Batra declined a scholarship from Peter Karlsson Academy in Sweden.

Manika Batra hails from a Hindu family, and in personal life, is a shy and private person. Her mother Sushma Batra is her role model, and she is often seen spending time with her when on a break, going out for a movie or shopping along with her mother.

Her father Girish Batra suffers from mental disease, but lends his support by watching every match and appreciating her. There is hardly any rumor on her relationship, and she is completely single focusing on her illustrious career.

Her favorite sportspersons are Sachin Tendulkar, Mouma Das, Neha Agarwal and Saina Nehwal.  Her favorite actors are Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt.

Her hobbies are nail painting and like dancing.

In 2008, at the tender age of 13 Manika Batra represented India at the global stage. In 2011, she won a silver medal in the Chile Open Under 21 category. She along with Ankita Das and Mouma Das won a silver medal in women’s double tournament and women’s team event at the Commonwealth Table Tennis championship.

In the same year she won the bronze medal in Women’s singles event at the Commonwealth Table Tennis. In 2016, she won 3 gold medals (women’s double event, mixed doubles and women’s team event) at the South Asian games.

In 2018, she won 4 medals at the Commonwealth Games (gold medal in women’s team event, gold medal in women’s singles event, silver medal in women’s doubles and Bronze medal in mixed doubles event).

On December 12, 2018, she won the “The Breakthrough Star Award” by ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation).
