Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player, who is widely hailed as the greatest Tennis player of all time. He has won 20 Grand Slam titles (6 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 8 Wimbledon and 5 US Open) till date, the highest by any male professional tennis player.

Roger Federer Early life
Roger Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland to Robert Federer (Swiss German) and Lynette Federer (Afrikaner). During childhood he served as a ball boy at the local Basel tournament, Swiss Indoors in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
Like all Swiss citizens he served the military, but was considered unfit and served in civil protection force. He was among the top rated juniors in the country by the age of 11 and turned pro in 1998.

Roger Federer is married to Miroslava Federer, a former WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) player, who represented Switzerland till 2002, but retired due to foot injury. The couple first met at the 2000 Olympics Sydney and since then the bond grew stronger and on 11th April 2009 Roger Federer married Mirka at Wenkenhof Villa in Riehen.
In the same year the couple were blessed with twin girls. 5 years later the couple again became proud parents and had another pair of twins, but this it was boys.

Roger turned pro in 1998 at the age of 17 and won his first ever grand slam (Wimbledon) in 2003 defeating Mark Philippoussis in the finale. In August 2003, he became number 1 surpassing Andre Agassi.
In the year 2004, he won 3 grand slam titles (Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon). He won all the major slams between 2004- 2007 except French Open, 2006 is considered the best season for Federer and statistically speaking it was the second best season of all time in the open era.
2008 was memorable year for Federer, he along with Stanilas Wawrinka won gold in the doubles, but could win only single grand slam (US Open) that year.
In 2009, the Swiss legend won 2 grand slams (Wimbledon and French Open), this was his first ever French open.
By 2010 Federer looked the pale shadow of himself, he was easily pinned by Novak Djokovic and Rafal Nadal and managed to win only single grand slam (Australian Open).
In 2011 the drought came and Federer for the first time couldn’t win a single grand slam due to slump in form and fitness issues.
In 2012, he made a grand come back and won the Wimbledon, he also won silver at the 2012 Olympics, and he lost to Andy Murray in the finale.
The period between 2013- 2016 was the worst phase in Roger Federer illustrious career, he showed glimpse of his genius, but couldn’t win a single grand slam.
In the year 2017, he made an astounding comeback and won his 8th Wimbledon title.
