Alexander Zverev has been confirmed as the ATP year‑end world number one after Carlos Alcaraz was eliminated from the Shanghai Masters. The loss guarantees Zverev finishes the 2026 season atop the rankings for the men's singles.
Zverev, currently ranked No 2, will overtake incumbent No 1 Jannik Sinner, who is sidelined with injury, before the season concludes next month. It also highlights that this has been Zverev’s most successful campaign, featuring two Grand Slam titles.
With the Shanghai Masters concluded, the ATP rankings will be finalised in November, confirming Zverev’s ascent to the top spot. His season, marked by two major titles, contrasts with Alcaraz’s early exit and Sinner’s injury‑induced absence, reshaping the year‑end hierarchy.
