India Vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI : Will India win their first series of 2023?

India Vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Will India win their first series of 2023

After successfully seeing off Sri-Lanka in the T20Is, India are looking to repeat the same in ODIs with the big guns coming into the squad. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back in the team after a short break they received during the T20Is.

But the comeback of these 2 greats have blocked the way for players like Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav who are in fine form. Surya Kumar Yadav just scored his 3rd Century in T20Is against the Lankans but Captain Rohit Sharma has no plans of involving him in the squad.

Shreyas Iyer has been favored to start for India today in place of Surya and Ishan Kishan despite hitting a double century at Bangladesh, he will not find himself in the first ODI at least. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was expected to return but he has been ruled out of the entire ODI series despite news coming that he was fit to feature.

But India still have enough firepower to go past their Lankan opponents who are without their injured Pacer Dushmanta Chameera. The Lankan seamer was required today against a side which has won 9 out of their 12 ODIs at home since 2020.

Will Sri Lanka turn to uncapped Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka who has shown a lot of promise in the domestic circuit or Kasun Rajintha who has a brilliant knack of hitting the deck. Their last option could be Lahiru Kamara but he is yet to fully blossom in 15 ODIs.

Wanindu Hasaranga has been their main spinner without a doubt but his ODI self suggests otherwise. On Paper, India will smash their opponents given the fact that batters like Shreyas Iyer and Shubhman Gill will be looking to raise the bar and continue retaining their spots.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav will provide spinning expertise while India have included pacers like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami and Siraj who are capable of causing a havoc against Sri-Lanka.
