Since the year 2010, Indian athletes had been participating in the Commonwealth Games and representing India on an international level. More than over 200 Indian athletes have taken part in the Commonwealth games till now.

Many Indian athletes have been qualified for the event and trials are still going on for some games. 

On Friday, during the selection trials for the women’s boxing team. Legendary Indian boxer MC Mary Kom’s dream to compete at Commonwealth Games 2022 ended in a painful knee injury and was forced to forfeit midway trails.

In the semifinals of the 48 kg selection trial, MC Mary Kom was going against Haryana’s Nitu Singh. In the first round, the six-time world champion, unfortunately, twisted her left knee and instantly went down in pain. the match was stopped and the boxer was carried out of the ring and Nitu was announced the winner by Referee Stops Contest due to injury.

Veteran Boxer, Mary Kom will miss the Commonwealth Games 2022 and it is heartbreak for many Indian fans as Mary Kom was the first Indian woman boxer to win the gold medal in the last edition of the commonwealth games.

After the fall, Mary Kom left knee was bandaged, and was then taken to the hospital for further scans.

“Six-time world champion Mary Kom has withdrawn from the ongoing Women’s Boxing Trials for the 2022 Commonwealth Games due to an injury she suffered on Friday,” the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a statement.

After winning the Semifinals, Haryana boxer Nitu will now go against Manju Rani for the Commonwealth games 2022 spot. 

Earlier, Nitu had represented India in the 48 kg category for the world champions, and now is the favorite to claim CWG place in the 48 kg category.
