After 52 days of closely contested and widely watched matches, two of best teams will compete for the coveted title at Dubai International Stadium. Mumbai Indians are chasing their fifth title and Delhi Capitals are eyeing their maiden title. Former has been pretty consistent and later has been inconsistent in the second phase before winning the second qualifier to book place in finals.

Many pundits had predicted MI-DC finals and it has gone that way. Mumbai team has all basis covered and would fancy their chances. MI had three encounters against Capitals this IPL and have beaten them quite comfortably. One set batsman from top four and then a trio of Krunal–Hardik Pandya have demolished the bowling attacks in last 5 overs. Their run rate has been close to 12 runs per over for last four overs. Delhi Capitals have their task cut out and that starts at top of their batting in facing Trent Boult’s swing.
Like in first qualifier Delhi Capitals were in no position of coming back into the match. If Delhi Openers can overcome the initial spell of Boult & Bumrah then they might pose a challenge to Mumbai Indians. Dhawan, who has crossed tally of 600 runs, was magnificent against SRH and if he scores in same intent then Mumbai Indians will feel the heat.
Will Delhi continue with Stoinis at the top or drop him to middle order that will be seen. If they persist with Stoinis and move comes off then Delhi should be more flexible with their batting order and push Hetmyer up the order to maximise the advantage. Pant would also like to get some runs and what better than a final where everything is at stake. Delhi bowling unit has been doing well apart from fee matches and that shows in their performances throughout the season.
Rabada has been sensational with 29 wickets and DC victory has been directly proportional to Rabada’s success. He and Nortje have taken 49 wickets between them. Delhi attack was taken to cleaners in the first qualifier and they would want to rectify that by taking a cue from Natarajan who has been a standout performer at death by executing his yorkers. Bowling to likes of Pollard, Pandya or any MI batsman on top six margins of error is very less and execution has to be spot on.
Delhi have to bring more than their best to beat the most successful team of IPL history. Its first final appearance for Delhi team in IPL and it must spur them to give one last big effort. Mumbai have to do what they have been doing and for Delhi, it’s all to do.
