Just like every other child, T Natarajan took up tennis-ball cricket as a hobby. However, one day a well-wisher from his village identified his skill as a bowler and asked Natarajan to try his hand at local competitive cricket. Motivated by the words, Natarajan relocated to Chennai and joined a cricket club in the city.
He came into limelight when represented the team of BSNL in Tamil Nadu Cricket Association fourth cricket league. After that, he then played for 1st division Cricket for Vijay Cricket Club for a year. He moved to Jolly Riders which included popular names like Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin.

T Natrajan plays for Tamil Nadu in the domestic leagues. After making his Ranji Trophy debut, he was reported for a suspected action. Thanks to former players like Sunil Subramanian, D Vasu and Venktaramana, he made an early comeback. He made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu against Bengal. Since his debut, the left-arm pacer has taken so far 64 wickets from 20 matches (33 innings) with best figures of 5/41. In the 2019/20 Ranji Trophy season, he took 17 wickets, but Tamil Nadu had a disappointing finish.
Apart from 20 first-class matches, Natarajan has taken so far 16 wickets from 15 List A matches and then 19 wickets from 22 matches.

In February 2017, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for ₹3 Crore. In January 2018, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 IPL auction.
