IPL 2020 first week review: Delhi Capitals at the top of the standings

The opening week of IPL is completed. Starting from some close matches followed by one-sided contests. Teams winning the toss have chosen to bowl and have won only once. Only Chennai won the first match of the tournament while chasing. With no competitive cricket played for 6 months, teams have to look very rusty and are still trying to hit the top gear. Spinners have outbowled the fast bowlers across both innings.

While bowling second early wickets by fast bowlers have left the chasing team behind the reqd run rate. Fielding has been below par with players not able to catch the ball under lights and so far 17 catches have been put down with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals leading the list with 6 & 5 catches.

The first 7 matches have seen a total of 90 half dozens being hit with 33 coming in a single game between RR and CSK at Sharjah which have shorter boundaries as compared to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. KKR, SRH, RR have played one match. MI, Kings, DC, RCB have played 2 and CSK have played 3 matches till now. DC is at top of the table by winning both their matches.

KKR and SRH are yet to open their account. Bowling first the last over has been going for a good amount of runs. Across seven first innings, 20th over has gone for a total of 124 runs. Captains would be keen to rectify the last over conundrum as a 20-30 run last over often decides the outcome of the match.

Moving into week 2 teams would hope to start putting a string of wind and be more consistent in all three departments to give themselves a fair chance if reaching knockouts when the business end of league stage comes.
