India’s entire sporting fraternity wishes India luck ahead of their first match against Spain
The day has finally arrived! After a wait of 5 years, the FIH Men’s Hockey World cup has returned for the 2023 edition scheduled to start from today at Odisha. Bhuvaneshwar’s Kalinga Stadium and Rourkela’s newly-built Birsa Munda Stadium will host the entire event.
Odisha, who are the title sponsors of the the Indian team are staging the World cup for the second time in a row and this time the event is expected to be a grand success.
Argentina and South Africa locked horns against each other in the opening match of the WC. The Argentinians were able to clinch the victory by 1-0 and kicked off their World campaign in style. India are also gearing up to begin their journey as they take on Spain in their first group game.
Expectations are high and all eyes are on the host nation who are yet to win a World cup since 1975. Their first challenge will be to break through a tough group which has teams like England, Spain and Wales. India’s recent success came during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when they won the Bronze medal and ended a 41-year drought for an Olympic medal.
Before they take on Spain later today at 7 PM, India’s sporting family has wished luck and passed on expectations to have a successful tournament.
My best wishes to our Indian men's hockey team for the World Cup. Go and enjoy yourself, we all are backing you. Good luck. 🇮🇳💪
