Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Belgium National Team and La Liga club Real Madrid. He is known as a ‘superb passer’ and a ‘defender’s nightmare’ by his opponents. He started playing football at a very young age, without being noticed by his parents, who also were footballers. His parents came to know about his passion for football when the coach of the Royal Stade Brainois showed up to his parents telling them how good Eden was at football. He soon started practicing football to became a professional player. He played his first match when he was ten-years-old, that too against a girl’s team, which his team ended up losing 5-0. When he turned 16, he secured a place in Lille’s first team. He earned an honorable place in Chelsea and has raised himself being worthy of matching his performance level with Ballon d’Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He had joined Real Madrid recently in 2019, and is hoping to lift every possible title.

He started playing for Belgium U-15 in the year 2006 and soon, in 2008, found himself in the Senior Team, and to date, has represented Belgian National Team in over 100 games.

Eden Hazard was born on 7th January 1991 in La Louviere to Thierry(father) and Carine(mother). Despite being born in La Louviere, he was raised in Braine-le-Comte. His parents were footballers, and his father Thierry was a defensive midfielder in Belgium Second Division, while his mother was a striker in the Belgium Women’s First Division. His mother quit playing football after she was three months pregnant with Eden in her womb. The couple has three sons Thorgan, Kylian, and Eden and all the three are now professional footballers.

The journey of Eden as a footballer started from his hometown club Royal Stade Brainios, which he joined when he was four-years-old. The coach there immediately recognized that he was a gifted player. He spent eight years with the club learning the basics, but after turning 13, he moved to Tubize where he was spotted by a scout from Lille OSC (first division club in France). The club made an offer to Eden’s parents to send him to them, which they readily accepted in a hope that the training facilities would be better there than that of the current club

Eden married Natacha Van Honacker in a Private ceremony. Natacha is his girlfriend since school days. Natacha after completing her education moved with Eden to Lille, where the couple have been blessed with three sons named Yannis, Leo and Samy.

Eden joined Lille in 2005 and started his initial pieces of training at their local sports schools for two years, where he performed well in training and was subsequently, signed under a three-year deal with Lille on 28 May 2007. He made his first amateur debut as a second-half substitute against the Racing club de France in a league match on 1st September 2007 following which he made his professional debut in a league match against AS Nancy on 24th November 2007 as a substitute, coming-on, in the 78th minute. Seeing his performance and commitment towards sports, he was permanently promoted to the senior team by the manager Rudi Garcia in the 2008-09 season. The season went well for him as he helped his team to qualify for the newly created Europa League and also received the honor of being the first international player to be named UNFP ‘Young Player of the Year’.

In the next season, 2009-10, number of top clubs started showing interest in him, which saw his idol Zinedine Zidane personally recommend him to Real Madrid, however, he decided to stay at Lille until 2014, and went to win the UNFP Young Player of the Year award for the second time. In the 2011-12 season, he played 100 consecutive Ligue 1 match thus becoming the player with the longest run in the French top flight. In 2012 he was transferred to Chelsea, when its officials reached with an agreement with Lille t sign him, for Chelsea Eden played his first match on July 18, 2012, against Seattle Sounders. In the 2012-13 season, he got suspended after he accidentally kicked the ball-boy who was intentionally laying on the ball to waste time. He has been also nominated for FIFA Ballon d’Or but didn’t win. On 12th February 2015, he signed a new five-and-a half year contract with Chelsea, and in the following season, earned the honor of being the best Player winning the PFA Player of the Year.

In the 2018-19 season, playing for Chelsea for the last time, he netted two goals in the final of Europa League against Arsenal. Chelsea won the League after which he joined Real Madrid on 7th June 2019 for around 100 million, and he was assigned Jersey Number 7 that has been worn previously by legendary players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul Gonzalez and Emilio Butraguneo. Playing for Real Madrid, he netted his first goal in a friendly match against RB Salzburg, helping his side register a 1-0 win. He is yet to make his debut in an official game for Real Madrid.

He was appointed as the caption of Belgium team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, however, unfortunately, the team didn’t manage to win the Cup but showed a phenomenal performance under his leadership, and went on to clinch Bronze. Belgium only lost in the semi-final to eventual winners France.

At the end of the World Cup, he was selected as the second-best player of the tournament, being awarded a Silver Ball from the FIFA Technical Study Group.
