William Saliba Biography

William Saliba is a French international who plays as a centre-back for the Ligue 1 club, St-Etienne whose parent club is Arsenal. He was bought by Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2019-20 but was loaned back for St-Etienne for a season.

At, 6’4”, William Saliba is relatively tall. William Saliba is immense on the ball and is therefore capable of playing from the back.

EARLY LIFE

Aged 18, the player was born on 24th March 2001 and has a Cameroonian descent though he plays for the France international team.  The player started playing at the age of six and has a connection to the young prodigy, Kylian Mbappe, whose father trained up the defender.

CLUB CAREER

The player started his career with AS Bondy at the age of six. Being trained by the father of fellow Frenchman, Kylian Mbappe, the player shifted to FC Montfermeil in 2008. William Saliba used to put in shifts in the defence to rise through the ranks. His consistent performances earned him a call up to the St-Etienne side in 2016. The player made his move on a free transfer to the U-17 side of St-Etienne.

In the month of September of 2018, the player made his professional debut for the senior side of St-Etienne. Though the player failed to keep the clean sheet in his first game, he helped the team to win the game by a score of 3-2 against Toulouse.

With everything going in the player’s way, Arsenal registered an interest in the player and snapped up a deal for him and brought him to England for a reported fee of €30 million. Though Spurs were reluctantly involved in the transfer, Gunners signed him by dodging of the North London side. As there were very fewer chances for the player to feature regularly for Arsenal, the Arsenal hierarchy loaned him back to St-Etienne.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

The player hasn’t featured for the French senior side but his consistent performances have earned him the place in the French youth side. For the U-16 of the French side, the player has 7 caps. Also, he has featured in the U-17, U-18 and U-19 games consistently having capped 15 times.

The player hasn’t won any significant trophies though he and his teams have performed very well on a regular basis. However, the player has been ranked as top 25 in the French Ligue.
