Best Bowling Figures Against RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore has posted many a monstrous total during their time in the IPL, thanks to their fearsome batting lineup. However, their batting stars don’t always click – sometimes they are outshone by a great bowling performance.

On that note, here is a list of the Best Bowling Performance against RCB in IPL matches as a look back at the time a bowler got the better of (almost) all the RCB batsmen.

5. Piyush Chawla (4/17)

Piyush Chawla

At the fifth place on this list of the best bowling figures against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL matches is leg spinner Piyush Chawla, who took 4/17 against RCB while playing for Kings Xi Punjab in 2011. Kings XI had put on a massive score of 232/2 in the first innings, led on by their captain Adam Gilchrist, who scored a magnificent 106 off 55 balls, and Shaun Marsh, who chipped in with 79 off 49. RCB’s chase never took off, and they had lost both Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli by the end of the fourth over. That’s when Piyush Chawla stepped in to scythe through the middle order, taking four wickets as RCB folded for just 121 and handed Kings XI the mammoth 111-run win.

The next entry on this list of the Best Bowling Performance against RCB in IPL encounters is actually a boy from Bangalore! Playing for the Rajasthan Royals against his local side in 2018, leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal bagged 4/16 to help his side claim a 30-run win.

The Royals had posted a challenging total of 164/5 in the first innings thanks to a fine knock of 80 from opener Rahul Tripathi, with some useful contributions down the order. In reply, the RCB chase got off to a strong start despite the early loss of Virat Kohli. Cue the entry of Gopal – he dismissed the well-set Parthiv Patel and AB de Villiers to start the RCB collapse, ending up with four wickets as RCB folded for 134 in 19.2 overs.

3. Dhawal Kulkarni (4/14)

The third spot on this list of the Best Bowling Figures Against RCB in IPL games goes to Dhawal Kulkarni, who was playing for the Gujarat Lions when he took 4/14 against RCB in the 2016 season. The Lions had gotten off to a shocking start after batting first, and were 9/3 before Dwayne Smith came in and smashed 73 off 41 balls to help his side reach 158 in their 20 overs.

RCB’s chase wasn’t any better – in fact, they were 5 down for 29 and had lost their sixth before they reached 70. However, crucially for RCB, they still had AB de Villiers left. The South African held up one end as Kulkarni wreaked havoc all around him, and guided his side home with a magnificent 79 off 47 balls with some help from the lower order batsmen.

2. Mohammad Nabi (4/11)

Mohammad Nabi

Second place on this list of the Best Bowling Performance against RCB in IPL matches goes to Mohammad Nabi. Although when an Afghan bowler’s performance is praised, it’s usually Rashid Khan who is the centre of attention, it was Nabi who took centre stage while playing for SRH against RCB in 2019.

Like with the Kings XI Punjab defeat discussed earlier, RCB conceded a huge score in the first innings as openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner slammed centuries to guide their team to 231/2 in their 20 overs. RCB failed to recover from their onslaught and were bundled out for just 113 in 19.5 overs in the second innings, with Nabi being the destroyer-in-chief with 4 wickets for just 11 runs in his four-over spell.

Ashish Nehra

First place on this list of the Best Bowling Figures Against RCB in IPL matches goes to a former RCB bowler in the form of Ashish Nehra. The left-arm seamer was playing for RCB’s southern rivals Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 season when he bagged 4/10 in his 4 overs to lead his side to victory.

In the first innings, CSK had posted a total of 181/8 in their 20 overs thanks to Suresh Raina’s sparkling 62. Virat Kohli matched Raine with a half-century of his own but lacked support from his teammates as RCB have held to 154/8 in their 20 overs thanks to Nehra’s incredible spell, handing CSK the 27-run win.
