Ankita Bhakat, an Indian recurve archer who was born on June 17, of the year 1998, is presently rated 20th in the world by the World Archery Federation. Ankita Bhakat competes in international competitions in the women’s solo, women’s team, and mixed team recurve categories as a member of the Indian national recurve squad. Ankita Bhakat participated in the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships, which were held in Rosario, Argentina, where she and her teammate, Jemson Singh Ningthoujam, won the gold medal in the recurve junior mixed team event.

Early life

Bhakat was born on June 17, of the year 1998, to milkman Shantanu and Shila Bhakat in Kolkata, West Bengal.

When Ankita Bhakat was ten years old, she started archery and had her initial instruction at the Calcutta Archery Club. In the year 2014, Ankita Bhakat enrolled at the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur, where she received instruction from Ram Awdesh, Purnima Mahato, and Dharmendra Tiwari.

Archery Career

Bhakat, a talented archer from India, was selected to compete in the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships in Yankton. However, due to visa issues, the Indian delegation was denied entry to the US. Bhakat won two medals at the 2015 Seoul International Youth Archery Festa and the Indoor Archery World Cup (Stage 2) in Bangkok. Ankita Bhakat also competed in the women’s individual and women’s recurve team events at the 2017 Asia Cup (Stage 2) in Bangkok, where she reached the quarter-finals but lost to compatriot Deepika Kumari.

Bhakat also participated in the women’s recurve competition at the 37th edition of the Indian Senior National Championships in Faridabad, making it to the finals but losing to Deepika Kumari. Ankita Bhakat also won a bronze medal in the mixed team event with her partner Mukesh Boro. In the year 2017, Bhakat was among 24 members selected to compete for the Indian national team in the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina.

At the World Youth Archery Championships, Bhakat and her partner Jemson Singh Ningthoujam won the gold medal after defeating the Russian team 6–2. They defeated the top-seeded Korean team 5–4 in the quarter-final and the Ukrainian team 6–0 in the semi-final.

In the month of April of the year 2018, Bhakat competed at the 2018 Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China, where she was seeded eighth in the individual recurve event. Ankita Bhakat defeated Bombayla Devi Laishram 6–4 in the third round but lost 4–6 to China’s An Qixuan in the fourth round.

In the month of May of the year 2018, Bhakat competed in the women’s individual and women’s recurve team events at the 2018 Archery World Cup – Stage 2 in Antalya, Turkey. Ankita Bhakat teamed up with Promila Daimary and Deepika Kumari and reached the semi-finals by defeating the French and Russian teams.
