Shriyanka Sadangi Biography
Born into an army family, Shriyanka Sadangi has lived up to her family’s reputation by building a career as a sports shooter. Sadangi, 29 years old, has achieved a lot in life before even being a shooter. Shriyanka Sadangi will be fighting in the women’s 50-meter air rifle three-position category at the Paris Olympics 2024 and will represent Team India. Generally, athletes are not able to take on much pressure and succumb to it, but Shriyanka is a solid example that anything can be achieved if the mindset is strong and the person is focused.
Early Life
Sadangi, who was born in Sambalpur in 1995 to Col. Sitansu Charan Sadangi and Sudha Sadangi, grew up in several Indian cities due to her father’s Indian army duties. Discipline was the first thing she learned from her parents, as they themselves were very focused individuals.
She attended Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, then polished her shooting abilities at the Gagan Narang Academy in Pune, where she received a scholarship from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited.
Sadangi is currently pursuing an MBA at the KIIT School of Management, which has been recognized as a university since July 2018. She excels in both academics and sports and is a wonder kid for any parent.
Shooting Career
Sadangi’s illustrious shooting career has seen her demonstrate her talent on both national and international platforms. In 2010, she competed at the World Shooting Championship in Germany. The next year, she won gold at the Asian Airgun Championship in Kuwait, indicating a bright future for her career. In 2011, she reinforced her status by winning a silver and two bronze medals at the National Shooting Championship.
Her abilities were further highlighted in 2012, when she won a silver medal at the 12th Asian Championship in Doha, reinforcing her title as Odisha’s most successful shooter. Sadangi advanced to the senior level, winning a silver medal in the 5th Asian Senior Airgun Shooting Championship in Nanchang, China.
She continued to dominate in the years that followed, receiving selection to the Indian team for prominent competitions such as the ISSF World Shooting Championship in Granada, Spain, in 2014. Notable wins included a silver medal in the Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait in 2015 and another silver at the 9th Asian Airgun Championship in Tehran, Iran, in 2016.
Sadangi demonstrated tenacity and competence at the 2018 International Shooting Championship, narrowly missing out on gold in the women’s air rifle category after a close battle with Germany’s Charleen Baenisch.
