Simone Biles Controversies

Simone Biles Controversies

The then USA Gymnastics interim CEO stepped down over a controversy that erupted on her now-deleted tweet criticizing Nike.

My withdrawal comes in the wake of personal attacks that, left undefended, would have made my leading USAG a liability for the organization,” she said in a statement.

With respect to Mr. Kaepernick, he nationally exercised his first amendment right to kneel. I exercised mine: to mark over on my own golf shoes, the logo of the company sponsoring him for ‘believing in something even if it means sacrificing everything’—while at a tournament for families who have lost a member of the armed services… who literally sacrificed everything,” Bono’s statement read.

To this, Biles reacted, stating: “That one tweet has now been made a litmus test of my reputation over almost two decades of public service.” She also called for a “smarter USA gymnastics president.”

Biles’ brother Tevin Biles-Thomas was arrested on charges of triple murder. “Still having a hard time processing last week’s news,” she shared on social media.

My heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families. There is nothing that I can say that will heal anyone’s pain, but I do want to express my sincere condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy,” Simone continued. “I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy as we deal with our pain. XO.

USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal broke where athletes were sexually assaulted by gym owners, coaches, and staff working for gymnastics programs across the country, particularly, longtime USA Gymnastics (USAG) national team doctor Larry Nassar. Simon Biles was one of the complainants after the scandal broke in September 2016. She, among others, accused Nassar of sexually assaulting them.

Simon Biles was in the middle of another controversy when she responded to inappropriate comments by teammate Gabby Douglas, who tweeted women have a “responsibility” to dress “modestly and be classy” in reply to a social media message from 2016 USA Olympics Gymnastics teammate Aly Raisman, whose message revolved around women’s right to be “sexy and comfortable in their own skin”
