Akash Mishra, an Indian professional footballer who plays left defender for the football team of Mumbai City of the Indian Super League and the India national team, was born on November 27, of the year 2001. The AIFF Emerging Player of the Year award for the year 2022–23 went to Akash Mishra.
Club Career
Akash Mishra, born in the state of Uttar Pradesh, started his football career at the U Dream Football Academy in the year 2015 and later joined the football team of Indian Arrows in the year 2018. Akash Mishra made his professional debut in the 2018–19 I-League season against Shillong Lajong FC, where Akash Mishra played his last match against the team of Real Kashmir FC.
In the 2019–20 I-League season, Akash made 23 appearances for the club before leaving for Hyderabad FC. In the 2020–21 ISL season, he made his debut against Odisha on November 23, of the year 2020. Akash Mishra was one of the developmental players to clock most minutes during the season and was awarded the Emerging Player of the Month award by the Indian Super League jury.
Mishra had a strong debut season, appearing in every match for Hyderabad and ranking second for the most number of tackles made by a defender that season with 80 tackles and 55 interceptions. On June 21, of the year 2022, Hyderabad FC announced a new three-year contract extension until the end of the 2024–25 season.
During his stay in Japan, Akash considered joining J2 League side Machida Zelvia, but was retained by Hyderabad and appeared in pre-season training ahead of the 2022 Durand Cup kickoff. He has since made 23 appearances for the club and won his first ever Hero of the Match award in a match against SC East Bengal on February 12, of the year 2021.
International Career
In the year 2019, Akash played for the India national under-20 football team, which triumphed over the football team of Bangladesh in the SAFF U-18 Championship. Akash Mishra participated in seven games and two goals during the competition. Akash was re-called for the under-18 team to compete in the 2019 Granatkin Memorial competition after the SAFF U-18 Championship.
On June 9, of the year 2019, Akash Mishra assisted India in securing a 1-1 draw against the football team of Bulgaria in their final group stage encounter. Akash participated in all three of India’s games throughout the competition and scored one goal.
Akash was on the 35-person probable list for the back-to-back international friendlies between Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the Indian national team. Along with nine other football debutants, Akash Mishra made his senior international debut against Oman on March 25, of the year 2021, in a friendly that finished in a 1-1 draw.
The Indian football team then called Akash Mishra up to play in the remaining games against the football team of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Qatar in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
