Harmanjot Singh Khabra, an Indian professional footballer who plays right back for East Bengal FC in the Indian Super League, was born on December 18, 1988. Khabra is a versatile player who has experience playing in a variety of positions, including full-back, center-back, wing, and midfield.

Football Club Career

Harmanjot Singh Khabra began his football career at the Tata Football Academy before signing his first professional contract with National Football League (later I-League) club Sporting Clube de Goa. He began playing for the team in the 2006–07 NFL season and scored two goals in his debut match against Army XI in the IFA Shield. Harmanjot Singh Khabra had a perfect debut campaign, winning the Durand Cup of the Year 2006 award for the most promising player of the year.

In 2009, Khabra signed with I-League side East Bengal ahead of the 2009–10 I-League season. He played in the Federation Cup final against Shillong Lajong FC on 3 January 2010, making his continental debut during the 2010 AFC Cup. He was part of the team that won the 2011 Indian Super Cup and represented East Bengal once in the 2011 AFC Cup against Persipura Jayapura.

Khabra made his debut goal for the club on 10 November 2012 against Air India FC, which they won 0–3. He also scored the opening goal of the season in the Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan on 9 December. After the AFC Cup, he was back on the pitch with East Bengal for the 2013–14 I-League season, where he was a member of the East Bengal squad that won the 2013–14 Calcutta Premier Division.

After the 2014–15 I-League season, Khabra was sent on loan to the newly formed Indian Super League club Chennaiyin FC. Harmanjot Singh Khabra scored his first goal of the season on 11 April 2015 in a 2–3 victory over Pune Football Club. After finishing the 2015 ISL season, he returned to East Bengal to play his last season in the 2015–16 I-League season.

Khabra returned to Chennaiyin FC for the 2015 Indian Super League season, making his debut against Atlético de Kolkata. He was suspended for four matches and fined 3 lakh rupees for violating the AIFF disciplinary code. After a red card for misconduct, Khabra returned to the pitch in November and scored his debut goal against Shillong Lajong. Chennaiyin qualified for the finals of the 2015 ISL, helping them win their first trophy. In 2016, Chennaiyin signed Khabra and Raphael Augusto on a permanent deal, with Khabra making his debut against FC Goa in a 2–0 victory. He played his last match against FC Goa, the highest-scoring match in the history of the Indian Super League. Khabra signed for I-League side Bengaluru FC in December 2017.

Bengaluru signed Khabra on a three-year contract in April 2018, and he made his debut in the Indian Super League on 19 November 2017. He helped Bengaluru win their second ISL trophy in the 2018-19 season, and qualified for the final for the third consecutive year. Khabra played in the 2020 AFC Cup qualifying play-offs but Bengaluru failed to reach the finals. In the 2020-21 season, he made his 100th appearance, providing three assists. Khabra left Bengaluru on 30 May 2021 after five years.

Khabra signed a two-year deal with Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters in July 2021. He made his debut against the Indian Navy in the 2021 Durand Cup and made his league debut against ATK Mohun Bagan FC in November. Khabra scored his debut goal and first-ever goal in the Indian Super League in January 2022 against Odisha FC. He captained the Blasters side for the first time in January and became the second player in Indian Super League history to play 10,000 minutes in the league.

Khabra made his first appearance against East Bengal in the month of October of the year 2022 but made only three more appearances and played his last match against East Bengal in February 2023. He was missed out on a squad for the 2023 Indian Super Cup season and left the club after the season ended on 31 May.

Khabra returned to East Bengal as a free agent in June 2023, captaining the side in a 2-2 draw against the Bangladesh Army Football Team.

International Football Career

In 2004, Khabra made his senior national team debut as a substitute in a friendly match against Maldives. He started in a match against Qatar and assisted on Sushil Kumar Singh’s goal. Khabra was selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He made his return to the national team in May 2022, appearing in a friendly match against Jordan. In September 2022, Khabra made his first appearance for India since 2016, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Singapore.
