Archana Kamath Early Life:

Archana Kamath was born to parents Girish and Anuradha Kamath who are ophthalmologists by profession.  She was first introduced to this great game of table tennis at the age of 9 years old when she visited at her uncle’s house in Mangalore who had ping pong board back then at his home.

It didn’t took her much longer to make her presence felt at district and state championships and two years later she won 30 titles across different age categories at the Karnataka State Table Tennis Tournaments.

Archana Kamath Professional Life:

In 2014, she became the youngest player to win Under 21 national title at the age of 14 years and five months.

She became the first player male or female to enter the semi-final of the Youth Olympics Table tennis after registering victory against  Azerbaijan’s Jing Ning however she couldn’t climbed to next round due to stiff challenge in last 4.

She excelled at the senior level after winning title after beating Manika Batra & Krittwika Sinha Roy to win marquee event. 

Though Kamath is small in stature but she channelized her aggression in the crunch phase of the game to register victory against her opponents.

I love to attack, I want to attack every ball,” Kamath told the official ITTF website during a 2017 interview. “I feel like playing the way men play. My approach is that I have nothing to lose. They, on the other hand, don’t want to lose to a small girl.”’ said Kamath in one of her previous interviews.

Currently she trains at Padukone-Dravid centre of excellence in Bengaluru.

Archana Kamath Commonwealth Games 2022:

Archana Kamath was initially selected to represent India in Commonwealth Games but now based on the recent meeting conducted by Committee of Administrators(COA) they have decided to drop her from the main squad and named Diya Chitale in the team who is currently ranked 3rd in women’s singles ranking in the country.

Kamath current ranking in singles is 37th and due to this committee decided to replace her name with Diya and the final approval of selection of all four women’s players was given by Sports Authority of India(SAI) based on current national rankings of individual players.

Archana Kamath Records & Achievements:

In 2016, Kamath created a sensation after she overcame the initial challenges against number 8th seed Portugal’s Raquel Andrade with a scoreline of (15-13, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8,11-8)

She went on to register victory against number 2nd seed  Hong Kong’s Mak Tze Wing in the same tournament and this victory immediately diverted all the attention towards Archana which clearly indicated that this budding paddler has a bright future.

Her role medal in sports is legendary Saina Nehwal(acclaimed badminton player) and she was also part of that squad who finished as runner up and bagged silver medal in team event of ITTF World Cadet Challenge held in 2014.

Archana Kamath won six games (10-12, 12-10, 11-4, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5) to end the day as unbeaten player at the 2016 World Junior Championship held at Capetown.

It was her brother who was more enthusiastic then Kamath initially when it comes to playing Table Tennis and would spar with her this was revealed by her while taking one of the media outlets. 

“He loved the game much more than me and I just happened to be there. But he was very nice to me as well. Sometimes, he would deliberately lose to me so that I wouldn’t cry,” told Kamath.
