Rahul Banerjee Biography: Rahul Banerjee is a well-known archer from India. Banerjee was one of India’s brightest hopes for an Olympic achievement in Archery. He competed in the Team & Individual recurve discipline at the 2012 London Olympics. In 2012, Rahul was also a part of the Indian team which secured No. 1 rank. The team comprised of Banerjee, Jayanta Talukdar and Tarundeep Rai.

EARLY LIFE

The Indian archer hailing from Kolkata began archery at a tender age of 13. As a kid, he was highly inspired by his sister who is also one of India’s exceptional archers in the women category. After completing his professional training at the Tata Academy, Banerjee went on & made his international debut at the 2004 Youth World Championship. The rest is history!

Rahul Banerjee was born on 15th December 1986 in Baranagar city, Kolkata in India. He was born to Ashok Banerjee and Kalpana Banerjee. His elder sister, Dola Banerjee is also a former Olympic archer.

Kalpana Banerjee always wanted her daughter to pursue her career in singing and Rahul to follow his elder sister’s footprints. But Ashok was involved in an archery club which ultimately changed Dola as well as Rahul’s future goals.

At the age of 10, Dola Banerjee created an addiction for the sport and this gradually became an inspiration for Rahul as well. His father was very supportive throughout their journey and encouraged them in their thick & thin.

Mrs. Kalpana was the person who was always fed up with their sporting career. Not in a wrong way but as a loving mother she was always dejected about her children staying away from home for long. Both archers went home for 1 day and used to vanish again.

Banerjee has acquired everything he has today solely because of his elder sister. The young archer has always credited Dola who is also his first coach and guided Rahul towards his archery achievements.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Rahul Banerjee earned a silver medal at his first international performance at the 2004 Youth World Championship.

His team medal at the event became the very first international medal for the Indian archers. Rahul further earned numerous gold medals at the World Cups respectively in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2009-2010, he even earned a gold medal (individual) at the Asian Grand Prix.

In 2010, he went on to earn a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi in the individual event and also a bronze medal in the team event.

He was also a part of the team that earned a bronze medal at the Asian Games in 2010.

In 2012, Rahul got qualified for the Summer Olympics by finishing at the second position in the final qualification competition held at Ogden, Utah in the United States.

At the London Olympics, Banerjee secured 17th position in the Individual discipline and 9th position in the team discipline.
