Ruturaj Gaikwad dropped from IND vs SL series, Fans demand “We Want Rutu Back”
Social media has been set ablaze with cries of “We Want Rutu Back” after star batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad was surprisingly dropped from the Indian squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. This comes as a shock to many fans and cricket experts, especially considering Gaikwad’s recent performance in Zimbabwe.
Ruturaj Gaikwad put up an incredible performance during his successful tour of Zimbabwe. He scored a respectable 133 runs across three T20 matches. Despite his contributions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opted to leave him out of the squad for the Sri Lanka series. This decision has left many fans scratching their heads.

Talking about Ruturaj Gaikwad’s overall performance in T20Is, he has scored 633 runs in 20 innings. The right-handed batter has an average of 39.56 and a blazing strike rate of 143.54. Despite these fantastic statistics he was dropped from the white-ball squad.
The BCCI announced the squad on Thursday, with the in-form Suryakumar Yadav being named as the new captain of the Indian T20I team for the Sri Lanka series. Shubman Gill, who also impressed during the Zimbabwe tour, will be his deputy. Notably, Hardik Pandya, who has captained the team previously, will not be taking on the leadership role for this series.
The squad for the Sri Lanka series sees the return of some familiar faces who were rested during the Zimbabwe tour. Pacers Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj are back, along with the explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.
The three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka kicks off on July 27th, followed by a three-match ODI series starting on August 1st. The T20I matches will be played on July 27th, 28th, and 30th.
While the team prepares for the upcoming challenge, fans remain disappointed by Gaikwad’s omission. They are questioning the selection committee’s decision, especially considering his recent form.
