Blunders made by Gautam Gambhir and BCCI in recent squad selections

1. Suryakumar Yadav as T20I Captain Over Hardik Pandya

One of the most surprising decisions by Gautam Gambhir and BCCI was appointing Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain instead of Hardik Pandya, who was widely expected to take over after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. Pandya, who had significant experience leading the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, seemed the natural successor. However, BCCI opted for Yadav, citing reasons that remain unclear and insufficiently justified.

2. No Abhishek Sharma in T20

Abhishek Sharma’s exclusion from the T20 squad despite his impressive performances in the recent IND vs ZIM series and IPL seasons has puzzled cricket fans. Despite scoring runs consistently with an average of 39.56 and a blazing strike of 143.54 he was excluded from the white-ball squad. Notably, he was captain of the team that won Gold medal in last year’s Asian Games, held in Hangzhou, China.

6. Mohammed Siraj’s Selection Over Mukesh Kumar in T20Is

The preference of Mohammed Siraj over Mukesh Kumar for the T20I squad despite the latter’s exceptional performance in a recent series against Zimbabwe has also been heavily debated. Mukesh Kumar’s outstanding average and wicket-taking ability in the shortest format made a strong case for his inclusion. However, BCCI opted for Siraj, who despite his potential, lacks consistency in T20 format.

Several questionable decisions have been made during the recent squad selection by Gautam Gambhir and BCCI. From surprising captaincy appointments to the exclusion of deserving players, these choices have a strong disagreement among cricket experts and have confused fans.
