Spanish Tennis star and World no.1 Rafael Nadal is one of the most humble sportsmen in the sports arena and during the Australian Open, he once again showed the reason why. He melted the hearts of the tennis fans worldwide after his gesture toward a ball girl during the match.
Nadal accidentally hit a ball girl in the head, but then he rushed immediately towards the ball girl to check up on her. The girl gave him a thumbs up, but a still-concerned Nadal and Delbonis both went over to her to make sure that she was fine. The Spaniard then gave her a kiss on the cheek as part of his apology.
After the end of the game, Nadal told reporters that he got scared as soon as the ball hit in her head. He also labelled the incident as one of the scariest moments in his long tennis career. However, he also hailed the girl as a super brave kid.
“For her probably was not a good moment. I was so scared for her, honestly. The ball was quick and straight on the head. She’s a super brave girl. It [has] been one of the more scary moments I’ve had on the tennis court,” he said.
Nadal went on to win the match 6-3 7-6 (4) 6-1 against Federico Delbonis. He will face fellow Spaniard and No. 27 seed Pablo Carreno Busta next in the Australian Open. This is the only title which the Spaniard won only once, which was back in 2009.
After winning the game, Nadal also went up to the ball girl again and handed her his headband. The girl gave a big smile after Nadal said she is a super brave girl.
