Nilakanta Sharma Early Life:
Nilakanta Sharma hails from Imphal east and started playing hockey in the year 2003 where he played at Posterior Hockey Academy till 2011 and later he switched to Bhopal Hockey Academy with his brilliant hockey skills he was selected to represent Junior National Hockey team in 2014 Sultan of Johar Cup and he was also drafted by Dabang Mumbai Franchise in Hockey India League.
This is very unlike choice from Nilakanta as the place where he come from Football is considered as top sport but the former choose hockey and was known for “Y Dodge” skills to opposing defenders.
Nilakanta Sharma Professional Life:
Niilakanta Sharma made his debut for senior national side in July 2017 against Belgium during India’s tour of Europe also represented India A in Australia Hockey League later this year.
He has been member of 4 nations Invitational Tournament held at Hamilton New Zealand where Indian team bagged silver medal successfully.
He has been member of Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2018 at Muscat, Oman.
In the FIH Hockey Olympic qualifiers held at Bhubaneswar where India emerged as winner. He was also member of Tokyo Olympics 2020 squad who clinched bronze medal in the marquee event.

“Looking back, the struggles have really paid off and today I have built a new house for my parents in Imphal. My parents encouraged me every step of the way and I am happy through hockey I have been able to give them a better life” said Nilakanta Sharma in the past while taking to one of the media outlets.
The credit should be given to Nilakanta where he choose less popular sport in Imphal in comparison to Football(most popular sport ) in the state speaks volumes about his confidence in his ability.
