Twenty20 cricket is all about scoring maximum runs in a very short span of time, and the quickest way to get at it is boundaries. One hard hit can earn you four or six runs at once, IPL as a platform has led many cricketers to prove their mettle and shine with their power-hitting abilities. We list here batsmen who have scored maximum runs of their Indian Premier League (IPL) career runs through boundaries.

Chris Gayle- 106 Runs vs Delhi Daredevils (2012 IPL)

In IPL 2012, the West Indies player scored 106 runs with boundaries in a match against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the match, Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 128 runs off 62 balls with 7 fours and 13 sixes.

Gayle’s knock helped RCB reached 215-1 on the scoreboard batting first. Which led to the victory as Delhi Capitals lost the match by 21 runs with 194-9 in the 2nd innings.

AB de Villiers- 112 Runs vs Gujarat Lions (2016 IPL)

In the 2016 edition, the South African southpaw smashed 112 runs with boundaries in a single inning. In a match against Gujarat Lions, the RCB wicketkeeper-batsman scored an unbeaten 129 runs off just 52 balls.

During his astonishing knock, de Villiers hit 10 boundaries and 12 sixes. RCB reached a giant total of 248-3 in the 1st innings. On the other hand, Virat Kohli also smashed a century in the match with 109 runs, Later, Gujarat Lions were defeated by 144 runs after getting bowled out for just 104 runs.

 

Brendon McCullum- 118 Runs vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (2008 Season)

The former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum scored 158 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the maiden IPL game.

With 10 boundaries and 13 sixes, the right-handed batsman produced 118 runs with just boundaries. McCullum’s outstanding knock helped KKR reach 222-3 in the match. Post which, Royal Challengers Bangalore were bowled out with just 82.

Chris Gayle- 154 Runs vs Pune Warriors (2013 Season)

The Gayle storm always manages to break records. In IPL 2013 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Gayle again smacked the season’s highest-ever knock of 175 runs off just 66 balls versus Pune Warriors. During his knock, the left-handed batsman hit 13 boundaries and 17 sixes, thereby producing 154 runs with just boundaries.

With Gayle’s power-packed performance, RCB scored 263-5 in the 1st innings which is to date the highest total by any team in the tournament. Later, Pune Warriors could manage only 133-9 in 20 overs and lost the match by a gigantic margin of 130 runs.

IPL is undeniably the most popular franchise T20 league in the world. IPL 2021, which was called off in May this year, is all set to resume with the second leg from September 19 in Dubai.
