Indian Premier League is also known as a league full of entertainment. However, along with unbreakable records, some quality cricket, the league is also known for some of its controversial, disgraceful moments, these moments can affect a player or the team for a long time.

Here we bring to you some of the most disgraceful moments in the history of the Indian Premier League:

Kieron Pollard throws bat on Mitchell Starc

Regarded as one of the most aggressive moments in the Indian Premier League, the incident happened between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2014. Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc engaged in an ugly argument. And later pacer Mitchell Starc bowled a bouncer in the 17th over which Pollard missed. Mitchell Starc sledged the Mumbai Indians all-rounder, to which Pollard chose to ignore. In the next ball, Starc started his run-up but Pollard moved away from the stumps mentioning he was not ready. However, Starc still bowled the ball towards Pollard.

This made the West Indies all-rounder Pollard furious and he threw his bat towards Mitchell Starc in a jiffy. Later, the Umpires discussed with both the players and calmed the situation.

 

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir Engage in a verbal argument

In IPL 2013, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli engaged in an ugly verbal argument. Gambhir was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders while Royal Challengers Bangalore was led by Virat Kohli. In the 10th over, Kohli was caught out by bowler Laxmipathy Balaji. While leaving the pitch, Kohli made a remark to the bowler. However, Gambhir stood up for the bowler and defended

As they exchanged the spat, they started walking towards each other. It was KKR’s Rajat Bhatia who intervened and calmed down Kohli. RCB won the match after chasing 155 batting second.

 

Danny Morrison lifts Cheerleader on shoulders

In the inaugural season of IPL, in 2008, New Zealand commentator Danny Morrison once lifted a cheerleader on his shoulders while giving a pitch report. The former New Zealand cricketer Morrison is known for his witty and humorous way of commentating.

While Danny Morrison was giving the pitch report with Ramiz Raza, there were 5 cheerleaders on the field, one of whom was sitting on Danny Morrison’s shoulders. This was a disgraceful incident to the foresight and the commentator was also later criticized by the Indian media.

 

Harbhajan Singh Slaps Sreesanth

Yet another disgraceful moment, the incident happened during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Harbhajan Singh was leading the Mumbai side versus Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings), and Sreesanth was a part of the Punjab unit. They both entered into an ugly sledding phase. After Kings XI Punjab won the match, Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth on the field. Sreesanth was seen crying on the field after the incident. Harbhajan Singh was found guilty of the incident and was banned for the rest of the IPL matches and 5 ODIs by BCCI.

 

Basil Thampi’s 0/70 versus RCB

After having won the toss SRH chose to field first against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 17th May in 2018. However, it wasn’t the day for poor Basil Thampi as he conceded 70 runs in that innings and set a record for conceding most runs in a single inning.

In his 2nd overs, he gave away 18 runs and in his next one, he conceded 14 runs. It was quite a poor performance from him that ultimately cost Sunrisers Hyderabad the match as they lost by 14 runs. He is still with the Hyderabad team but hasn’t been given many chances over the last couple of the IPL editions.
