IPL 2020: Top three picks for Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Delhi Capitals are once again on their way to bottle the playoffs spot after losing four games in a row. Delhi Capitals were leading the line-up to qualify for the playoffs but haven’t yet since their 8th game. After winning seven out of their eight games, Delhi Capitals’ form has hit the roadblock and are struggling in the league to register a victory. In a do-or-die clash, they are up against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.

At Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Delhi Capitals will look to win the game and qualify for Qualifier 1 as they have 14 points in their kitty. However, the game wouldn’t be easy because of two things. First, Royal Challengers Bangalore also requires a victory. The second is their form. Losing four out of four after the players hitting the top stride is something that teams won’t prefer. Against RCB, an exciting game is on the cards.

The batting has been awful for Delhi Capitals. They were restricted for a mere score of 110 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians. The openers have failed badly which has mounted the pressure on Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. The lower-middle order batsman like Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmeyer haven’t fired recently. However, the captain will hope to change the fortunes on Monday.

Here are the top three picks for Delhi Capitals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium against Royal Challengers Bangalore:

#1) Alex Carey

The left-handed wicket-keeper batsman was given few chances in the initial games of the season but was subsequently dropped after Rishabh Pant returned to the line-up. However, Rishabh Pant has failed to hit the top gear and his wicket-keeping skills also have gone too low. In a crucial game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the captain might bring in Alex Carey at the expense of a foreign batsman and replace Pant.

Though he hasn’t played several games, Alex Carey has shown the potential to become a great player. He will be one of the top three picks for Delhi Capitals on Monday.

#2) Shikhar Dhawan

The batsmen have misfired for Delhi Capitals in the last two games because of the poor performance by the openers. Shikhar Dhawan was sent packing early by the Mumbai Indians bowlers which created problems for Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

Despite the poor form, he is one of the contenders for Orange Cap, standing second on the list with 471 runs. He has also scored two centuries and only fourth batsmen in IPL 2020 to do so. He will be one of the top three picks for DC against RCB.

#3) Ravichandran Ashwin

The office has been a great contributor to Delhi Capitals in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. Not only he has provided important breakthroughs for his side. But also has marshalled the spin department against the strong teams. Though he has performed brilliantly, the lack of contribution from the batsmen have daunted the team’s aspirations to win the games.

Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Ashwin will have a big role to play. He will have to restrict the likes of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli who are the mainstay in the line-up. He will be one of the top three picks for Delhi Capitals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
