Best Bowling Performances of Chris Jordan in IPL

Chris Jordan’s career, both in IPL and for England, has never quite taken off. Once deemed to be the next big thing with his raw pace and disciplined line and length, the pacer had to deal with quite a few injuries throughout his career. At 31, he finds himself a few places off the coveted English side. But an IPL 2020 contract with Kings XI Punjab can turn things around on its heels.

Chris Jordan‘s first stint in IPL came purely by chance. Back in 2016, a nasty injury ruled the then Royal Challengers Bangalore pace spearhead Mitchell Starc out of the tournament. Chris Jordan was called up as a replacement and he did a fairly decent job. That earned him a contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad, but he never got enough opportunities with the Orange Army to prove his worth.

Here is the list of Top Bowling Performance of Chris Jordan in IPL so  far:

5. 1/43 vs Rising Pune Supergiant

Chris Jordan

The first mention on this list is a spell where Jordan was not as effective as we know he can be, but he still played a significant role in his side’s victory. Batting first, the now-disbanded Rising Pune Supergiant got off to a flying start. After the top order was sent back to the pavilion, Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera was carrying the onslaught.

He smashed 14 runs from just the first seven balls he faced, batting at a strike rate of 200. Had RCB allowed him to carry on, Pune would have definitely crossed the 200-run mark. But Jordan dismissed him to restrict Perera’s team to 191, which Bangalore managed to chase down.

Chris Jordan

Best Bowling Performances of Chris Jordan in IPL: Chris Jordan played a big part in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s best season of the tournament so far, and he was also instrumental in the biggest game that RCB has taken part in their 12-year long journey. Though Virat Kohli & Co. might have lost the 2016 final against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jordan was on the money.

In a high-scoring encounter, the English pacer was a bit expensive and conceded 45 runs. Having said that, he picked up three crucial wickets at important intervals. The first of them was the Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques. The second and perhaps the most important one was Yuvraj Singh, who was in red-hot form in the final. He later dismissed Bipul Sharma to help RCB restrict Bangalore under 210.

3. 1/10 vs Delhi Capitals

Chris Jordan

Unlike the previous mention, this was a very low-scoring affair. Delhi Capitals managed to score just 138 runs against RCB, with most of Kohli’s bowlers boasting of a commendable economy rate. But the most economical of the lot was Chris Jordan.

He conceded only 10 runs from his two overs, at an economy rate of under 5 runs per over. Besides that, he also took the wicket of fellow countryman Sam Billings, who has proven to be a handy little customer in T20 cricket. Bangalore managed to chase the target down with eleven balls to spare.

Chris Jordan VS Gujarat Lions

Top Bowling Performance of Chris Jordan in IPL: Though Jordan’s spell was not enough for Bangalore to win 2016 final, they reached to the final in the first place because of another sublime spell from the pacer. In the Qualifier 1 against the now disbanded Gujarat Lions, Jordan kept a steady check on the runs flow and conceded just 26 from 4 overs.

He also picked up two wickets in that match, the first of which was enormously vital. It was the wicket of Dinesh Karthik, who was forming a steady yet solid partnership with Dwayne Smith. Jordan broke the 85-run fourth-wicket stand to give Bangalore a boost. He later dismissed Praveen Kumar to add to his wickets tally.

1. 4/11 vs Gujarat Lions

Chris Jordan VS GJ

Perhaps when Jordan will don the red jersey of Kings XI Punjab this season, he will miss playing against the Gujarat Lions. Before his exploits in the Qualifier 1, Jordan pulled off something spectacular against the same opposition at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Batting first, Bangalore amassed a humongous total of 248. Gujarat’s batting lineup fell like nine pins and crumbled for only 104, courtesy four wickets from Chris Jordan. He got the better of Ravindra Jadeja and Dinesh Karthik in consecutive deliveries to paralyze Lions’ middle-order. Later on, in the innings, he dismissed Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni in the same over to stop any late onslaught.
