Assad Vala, the captain of Papua New Guinea’s cricket team, was born on August 5, of the year 1987. Assad Vala has been representing Papua New Guinea national cricket team as a left-handed batsman and off-spin bowler, since 2005.

Early Cricket Career

Assad Vala, who was born in Papua New Guinea in 1987, first played for his country at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in the year 2004. At the 2005 ICC Trophy in Ireland, where Vala competed in seven List A games, Vala made his debut in the senior team.

Later in the year, at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, South Africa, he played in the Africa/East Asia-Pacific Under-19 Championship, returning to the Under-19 level. Vala participated in the Australian National Country Cricket Championship in the year 2006 for a combined East Asia Pacific team, and he did so again in the years 2007 and 2008.

Assad Vala competed in Division Three of the World Cricket League in Darwin in the year 2007 and represented his nation’s cricket team there, winning the cricket competition’s gold medal.

International Cricket Career

Vala made his One Day International (ODI) debut in the year 2014, against Hong Kong in Australia. His Twenty 20 International (T20I) debut in the year 2015 against the national men’s cricket team of Ireland in the ICC (International Cricket Council) World Twenty 20 Qualifier tournament. He scored a match-winning 124 not out against the cricket team of Netherlands in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup and scored three hundred in his first four matches.

Vala was named one of the ten cricket players to watch ahead of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament of the year 2018. He was named captain of the national men’s cricket team of Papua New Guinea for Group A of the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty 20 East Asia-Pacific Qualifier tournament. He was on the team with 294 runs in six matches. He was named captain of Papua New Guinea’s squad for the 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series. Vala scored his first century in One Day International (ODI) cricket in that tournament. Vala was nominated for the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Decade award, in the year 2020. He was named captain of the Papua New Guinea squad. For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup of the year 2021.

Personal Life

Vala is married to Pauke Siaka, who is also a cricketer. She plays cricket for the national women’s cricket team of Papua New Guinea. She also represents the country on the international level.
