Antoine Griezmann is a French footballer who plays as a forward for the French National Team as well as for Spanish giants Barcelona. He always dreamt to become a successful footballer, and nowadays he is living his dream. His journey in football has not been easy at the start, he was rejected by various youth clubs due to his physical frame, until 2005 when he was recognized by Real Sociedad, where he spent 4 years. He then progressed well at the club, which got him contracts from Atletico Madrid and recently, FC Barcelona. He is among the most popular players in the world right now and though, he isn’t the most well-built footballer but has the skill to overcome that.

Early Life

Antoine Griezmann was born on March 21, 1991, in Macron France, and idolized his grandfather Amaro Lopes, who was a professional footballer. Having a background and history in sports, Antoine decided to try his luck in football. Antoine belonged to a well-off family and hence, didn’t have to struggle a lot for the accessories required to play football. His father was a reputed, politically powerful man, while his mother was a hospital cleaner. He was inspired by French superstar Zinedine Zidane to practice and work hard to achieve his goals as a footballer.

Griezmann joined the youth ranks of Real Sociedad and lodged with the club’s French scout while attending school across the border in Bayonne. Griezmann used to train in the evenings at the club in San Sebastián while pursuing academics throughout the day.

Life wasn’t easy for the diminutive French striker and he took time to come to terms with the club’s expectations and break into Real Sociedad’s first team, which eventually happened in 2005.

Antoine Griezmann joined Sociedad’s youth setup in 2005, and continued at the club for four years, sharpening his skills, day and night. He worked hard and overcame his deficiencies and finally got his break in 2009. He made his competitive debut in 2009-10, and played games, ahead of making his competitive debut, in the pre-season, where he scored five goals in four matches, making a strong case for selection for the league matches. On 8 April 2010, Griezmann signed his first professional contract with Sociedad committing the next 5 years to the Spanish club and had a release clause worth €30 million.  Griezmann scored his first goal in his maiden competitive match against Huesca in 2009. He put in fantastic performances that led to his team qualifying for La Liga. His performances attracted many clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, but he continued with Real Sociedad.

In July 2014, Atletico Madrid entered into talks with Real Sociedad for the possession of Antoine, and the club convinced the Frenchman to sign a six-year contract. In a group stage match of the Champions League, playing against Olympiacos, he scored his first goal for Atletico Madrid.

In June 2017, rumors about his departure from Atletico Madrid caught fire with English Premier League termed as his preferred destination. But Griezmann showcased loyalty and stayed put, signing a fresh contract with Atletico Madrid, running till 2022.

He recently sealed a move to Barcelona, which also sparked controversy as Atletico Madrid demanded more money, however, things seem to have subsided now.

Griezmann made his International debut in 2014, where he played in the FIFA World Cup as well, but his peak came to the fore in UEFA Euro 2016, where he led his team to finals, but sadly they lost against Portugal. Due to his marked performance, he won the Golden boot and made a place in the team of the tournament.

He was also an integral part of France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning campaign, scoring 4 goals and notching up 2 assists.
