Wimbledon 2023: Djokovic, Alcaraz move to the next round dominantly

The favourites to win the men’s singles category at Wimbledon 2023, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, have moved swiftly to the second round after getting a win over their opponents in straight sets rather comfortably.

The defending champion and second seed, Novak Djokovic, was up against Argentinian Pedro Cachin and defeated him in three consecutive sets: 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). It seemed like the match was a practice session for Djokovic, who had a great time on the grass court.

Carlos Alcaraz also defeated his French counterpart, Jeremy Chardy, easily. The number one seed Spaniard dominated, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, 7-5. The scoreline shows Alcaraz was all over Chardy and did not even let him win a single game in the first set.

Earlier in the day, Jannik Sinner also managed to register a sweet victory in the first round and has his place booked in the next one. Casper Ruud, the fourth seed, also won his first-round match yesterday, even though he dropped a set on the way to the victory.

There were a few upsets as well, as the eleventh seed Canadian, Felix Auger-Aliassime, was knocked out of Wimbledon 2023 by American Michael Mmoh in a very intense battle. Mmoh is an unseeded player, and hence it was a huge upset just on the first day of the Grand Slam.

The rain has played a spoilsport in the matches so far, as we have a lot of important matches to be played later in the day. The third seed, Daniil Medvedev, will be up against Arthur Fery; home player Andy Murray will be up against Ryan Peniston; and Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be continuing with their matches as soon as the rain stops.

The second-round matches are going to be a lot of fun, with a few big upsets on the cards.
