Teemu Pukki Biography: Teemu Eino Antero Pukki is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a striker for the Finland national team and The Premier Club Norwich City. He began his carrier with Club KTP and then moved to Sevilla in 2008, where he played only one La Liga game for the first team. He had played for the top division Geman club Schalke 04, Scotland club Celtic and Denmark club Brondby. In 2018 he signed Norwich City on a free transfer. He was named Player of the season in the 2018-19 EFL Championship. For the National team, Pukki had earned 76 caps with 20 goals.

EARLY LIFE

Pukki was born on 29th March 1990 in the Southern Part of the Kymenlaakso province on the Gulf of Finland to Tero Pukki and Teija Pukki. After his birth, Pukki was raised in Hovinsaari, Kotka. It was a part of town in the Gulf of Finland generally known for its natural parks and historic sites. Having football-loving parents helped his choice of picking football as his hobbies, gradually his football hobbies became the ultimate passion of his life. He began his football career with HOPS after passing its trials with flying colours. The club gave him the needed guidance and foundation which paved way for him to join bigger academies. He then Joined the KLP’s youth side squad, he made his debut for the first team at the age of 16. In his two-season, he made 29 appearances in the Finnish Premier League in which he netted three goals. In 2008 Pukki started playing for Sevilla, he was called for his first match against the Real Madrid on 7th December 2008 but played the role as an unused substitute. He debuted for the club in La Liga tournament against Racing on 25th January 2009.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

On 28th August 2010, Pukki signed a three-and-half-year contract with the Finnish Veikkausliiga club HJK. Playing for the club he made his debut for the club on 30th August in a match against the IFK Mariehamn. He netted his first goal in a match against the FF Jaro which was his first goal in a league match. In the 2010 season, he netted seven goals for the club. At the end of the season, Pukki won the Finnish Veikkausliiga with a silver medal for his performances. In the 2011 season, he netted 11 goals and assisted eight goals in his 18 league appearances. He also played a key figure in HJK’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League qualifications. Following his carrier, Pukki played for Scottish club Celtic and assisted during Scottish Premiership in 2013-14 season, then for the Brondby IF he helped to conquer the 2017-18 Danish Cup.

On 30th June 2018, he signed the English Championship club Norwich City on a free transfer on a contract of three-year deal. He made his debut for the Club on 4th August in a 2-2 draw against Birmingham City, a week later he netted his first goal for the Club in a 4-3 loss to West Bromwich Albion. On his watch, the club was able to conquer the 2018-19 EFL Championship. Pukki started the 2019 season by netting eight goals across six consecutive matches. In 2019 April he was named as an EFL Championship player of the Year due to his hard work and determination he put into to improve his gameplay. He also was named as the Norwich City F.C Player of the Season by the Norwich City’s supporters for 2018-19 and received the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy. On 3rd July 2019, Pukki signed a fresh three-year contract with the Premier League newcomers. Despite starting his new season in a 4-1 loss to Liverpool, eight days later he scored a hat-trick in the Premier League against the Newcastle in a 3-1 victory, it was Norwich’s first hat-trick in the Premier League since Efan Ekoku netted a hat-trick for the team in 1993 against the Everton. For his performances, he was named the Premier League Player of the Month August and the PFA Premier League Player of the Month. For his national team, Pukki debuted from 4th February 2009 when Stuart Baxter used him as a substitute against Japan in a friendly match against Tokyo. In the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, Finland was promoted from League C after which Pukki netted the only goal for the team in the first three matches.
