Slavia Prague, also known as The Eternal Slavia, is a Czech Football Club. They participate in Czech Cup and Fortuna Liga. The Club has also appeared in other competitions like the Mitropa Cup and Coupe de Nations.

HISTORY

The club was founded 129 years ago on 2nd November 1892 by the medical students in Vinohrady, Prague to increase student’s participation in sports. The club until four years focused on cycling while gradually expanding to Football in 1896.

In 1905, John Madden a former Celtic player after becoming the manager of the club brought golden age for the club as the club won 134 domestic matches, 304 internationals matches from 1905-1930.

Club’s second golden age began when they bought Josef Bican with whom the club won four major titles, but from 1951, the team started showing poor results as they got relegated twice in 1961 and 1963.

In 1996, the club’s performance improved a bit as they won their 14th title and also reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the club qualified five times for the UEFA Champions League but every time it got eliminated at group stages.

In 2010, the club suffered  financial crisis as they owned 112 million Czech korun to the club’s former owner ENIC Sports Ltd. In 2015, the CEFC China Energy Company bought the team which stabilized the financial problems of the club.

Club Ownership

The Club is under the ownership of Sinobo Group and CITIC Group. The groups took over the ownership of the club in 2015 when the financial stability of the club was falling.

The Sinobo Stadium serves as the home ground of the club. Located in Vrsovice, Prague, the stadium has a net capacity to hold 19,370 spectators.

The current net worth of the club is 41 Million Euros.
