Sarita Romit Singh is an Indian hammer throw athlete. She currently holds the national record in the same event with a throw of 65.25m. She is a very experienced campaigner in domestic competitions. She won the silver medal at the All-India Inter-University for Hindu College which fuelled her love for the hammer throw.

Sarita Romit Singh Personal Life

Sarita Singh was born on the 26th of October 1989 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father is a farmer. She was drawn to sports at an early age. Ironically hammer throw was not her preferred choice of discipline, to begin with. When she was in 12th standard in 2005, she opted for a career in the long jump and triple jump events. Despite giving her best she could not find her footing in those disciplines.

Sarita began her career in 2005 as a long jump and triple jump athlete. After spending some years trying to establish herself, she figured out that it is not her forte. Sarita then chose to enter the hammer throw discipline and participated in the All India University Games representing her college. She won the silver medal which also ensured her Group C job with Western Railways.

Sarita won the gold medal at the Guwahati Inter State Championships in 2018 with a throw of 63.28m. Sarita represented India in the 2017 Asian Championships and came 4th missing on a medal by a whisker. In 2018 Sarita represented India in the Asian Games in Jakarta where she stood fifth. Her performances in the domestic competitions were good as she bagged another gold medal in the Patiala Federation Cup with a throw of 63.80m.

Sarita took the transfer to the northern railway DRM office in Moradabad. On the 6th of April 2022, Sarita breached the qualifying mark for this year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games at the Federation Cup in Kozhikode with a throw of 64.16m.

At the Federation Cup in Kozhikode this year Sarita breached the qualifying mark for this year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. She threw the iron ball to a distance of 64.16 meters.

Sarita’s aim is very simple to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games for India and for her 2-year-old daughter Mahi. Sarita is very confident about winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games as it is her lifelong dream.
