Summer Olympics 2016The 2016 Summer Olympics was the 31st edition of Olympics, and is officially known as Games of the XXXI Olympiad. It was held at Rio, Brazil. The prestigious sporting event took place between August 5 and August 21, 2016. 2017 Nations were expected to be a part of the mega sporting event, however, 206 nations participated in the multi-sports event with over 11,000 athletes putting their best in their respective sports. Although the event started from August 5, precursory events in some sports began on August 3 itself.

Sports at the Olympics 2016:
The sporting events took place at 33 venues in the host city Rio de Janeiro including five separate venues in the Brazilian cities of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília, and Manaus. IOC invited applications for the addition of two new sports to be added in the Rio Olympics 2016. Rugby and Golf was finally given a nod by the IOC executives that were then added to the Rio Summer Olympics 2016. Finally, the event featured 28 sports with over 41 disciplines being conducted in the 2016 Summer Games.
