Satish Kumar Sivalingam Biography: Indian weightlifter, Satish Kumar Sivalingam, is one of the well-known weightlifters from India. The athlete specializes in the Men’s 77 kg weight discipline. PERSONAL LIFE
Satish Sivalingam was born on 23rd June 1992 in the Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. His father, Sivalingam is an ex-serviceman who has also played at the national level and is currently working as a security guard at VIT University in Vellore. His father and mother, Deivanai have always supported the young athlete to pursue his dreams. Satish Sivalingam completed his schooling from Government Higher Secondary School in Sathuvachari. He is currently working as a clerk in Southern Railways in Chennai.
His father was his first coach who trained him before the age of 13. He trained him more than 5 hours a day. Under his father’s guidance, he earned many achievements including medals in junior and senior categories in the state, national & Asian-levels games. Satish’s father has always taken care of his diet and never allowed his son to even consume coffee.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
Satish took admission in the Atlas Weightlifting Training Centre near to his house. He didn’t miss a single day and did rigorous training.
In 2008, the athlete earned a gold medal in the 77 kg category. He also lifted 144 kg in snatch games & 173 kg in clean and jerk.
In 2014, Satish earned a gold medal in the Men’s 77 kg, 179 kg clean and jerk lifts and 149 kg snatch that sums up to 329 kg. He created a new record with his lift in the Men’s 149 kg in the snatch.
In 2016, Satish Sivalingam got qualified for the Rio Olympics in the 77 kg category. He completed 11th in the field of 14 lifters.
