Michael Hussey has always enjoyed his time playing in India, whether it’s in the IPL or with the Australian national team. The left-hander, who has also represented Mumbai Indians in the tournament, comes in at number five on this list of batsmen with most runs in an IPL season during his time with the Chennai Super Kings.

Hussey, who was deployed in an opening slot for most of his time in the IPL, really came into his own in 2013, where he scored 733 runs in 17 innings at an average of 52.35 and a respectable strike rate of 129.50 as well. However, his efforts were to be in vain as his side lost in the finals despite topping the table in the group stage.

While the big-hitting ability of Chris Gayle has never been in question, there have been some doubts over his ability to produce those displays on a consistent basis. While he has played some of the most memorable knocks ever in the tournament’s history, 2012 was when he managed to combine his power and aggression with consistency.

He remains tied with Michael Hussey on this list of batsmen with Highest Run Getter in an IPL Season on 733, runs, but incredibly, he scored them in just 14 innings, three less than Hussey! He also maintained an average of 61.08 and a tremendous strike rate of 160.74 and would have surely gone on to do some damage had RCB gone further than fifth in the league table that year.

There was always going to be just one name topping this list of batsmen with most runs in an IPL season.
