There were quite a few surprises picks in the auctions for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. Manimaran Siddharth, or simply M Siddharth is one of those surprise picks. But for those cricket enthusiasts who have been following the Indian domestic circuit very closely, he is not an unknown commodity. The player has played 9 domestic matches as of yet and has already picked three 4-wicket hauls.

He has been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of the competition. Incidentally, KKR’s skipper Dinesh Karthik also leads the Tamil Nadu side, which happens to be Siddharth’s state team. The veteran wicket-keeper has a lot of faith on the left-arm orthodox spinner. Alongside his fellow teammate R Sai Kishore, he is a part of one of the most vicious spin duos of Indian domestic circuit.

  • M Siddharth is born on  3 July, 1998.
  • He has played for the Chepauk Super Gillies in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
  • During his debut against Mumbai in the Super League phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the broadcasters mistakenly named M Siddharth as a specialized batsman.
  • In all of his first three games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Siddharth has bowled with the new ball. He is one of those rare commodities who are equally good at both the start of the innings and at the death overs.
  • He is a very good friend of R Sai Kishore, another promising spinner from Tamil Nadu. Kishore has found himself in the Chennai Super Kings roster. On being asked about their partnership, Siddharth told DT Next “We have had scalps at the beginning, putting pressure on the opposition. We both are making a lot of inroads, so it’s a good feeling.”
  • Though KKR are the side who actually got his signature, Sunrisers Hyderabad were amongst the first to scout him. Siddharth himself was vocal about it. “SRH got in touch with me. The selection will happen on December 3 (of 2019),” he revealed in an interview.
  • He was not initially a part of the Tamil Nadu side. He was called up when the veteran Murali Vijay was injured.
  • He is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree from Loyola College.
  • He has been a crucial part of Tamil Nadu U23 side. In the 8 matches he played for them, Siddharth picked up 15 wickets.

  • His T20 debut came on November 22 of last year against Mumbai, at Surat. In that game, Siddharth picked up 4 wickets by conceding only 16 runs. Two of those four victims were national team members, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw.
  • His first-class debut came on December 9 of the same year. This match was against Karnataka at Dindigul. He picked up three wickets, one of which was of national team member Mayank Agarwal.

  • He picked up a 4-wicket haul on his debut match.
  • During the 2017/18 season, he crossed the 50-wicket mark by taking 52 wickets for Alwarpet.
