Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho criticsed his team’s performance after suffering a defeat against Royal Antwerp by 1-0 and said “for this defeat we need to blame ourselves”. It happened during Europa League clash between two sides where Royal held their nerves brilliantly and outclassed Tottenham in crunch situations.

“We can only blame ourselves, and we can only praise our opponent,” the club’s official website quoted Mourinho as saying.

As for Royals, the only goal that was scored throughout the match was scored by Lior Refaelov. Mourinho further stressed that Royals played at their maximum potential while we displayed poor performance which costed us as we finished on the losing side.

“I would prefer to praise the opponent because they played a magnificent game, and not to blame ourselves, because we played an awful game. But I have to do both, to praise them, because they played at the maximum of their level, and we have to blame ourselves because we were poor,” he said.

It is clearly evident from the video shared on Tottenham official Twitter handle that he is disappointed with the results as the loss meant that their 10 games Unbeaten streak brought to an abrupt halt by Belgian side Royal Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday. However, they are still placed at fifth position in the Premier League and they will be next locking horns against Brighton on Sunday in the Premier League.

Mourinho is considered as one of the greatest football manager of all time. Before starting his stint with Spurs he has served at different role in other prime clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Porto and Benfica. As a player he usually played at Midfield position and made 94 appearances at senior level where he scored 13 goals for his side.
