Adrian San Miguel del Castillo is a Spanish professional Footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the Premier League club, Liverpool.

EARLY LIFE

Adrian was born on 3rd January 1987 in Seville, Spain. He began his Football career with Real Betis as a striker and a winger till he turned ten as after that his position was replaced as a goalkeeper.

He spends two years with the C-team and five years with the reserves until he was loaned to Alcala in 2008 and Utrera in 2009. On his return, he was promoted to the first team for the 2011-12 season.

On 29th September 2012, he made his La Liga debut in a 0-4 loss against Malaga. He became a big name after his performance against Real Madrid on 24 November 2012 due to which his team won the match by 1-0.

Following his career with the club, he played 31 matches, keeping 11 clean sheets as the club finished in seventh place and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

CLUB CAREER

On 5th June 2013, he joined West Ham United on a three-year term. He made his debut on 27th August 2013 in a 2-1 home win against Cheltenham Town. Next year he kept his first premier league clean sheet in the 2-0 away win over Cardiff City.

For his performances ahead he won the best Individual performance award and Save of the Season award. He was also named runner-up of Hammer of the year to Mark Noble. By the end of 2013-14, he became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

On 5th August 2019, Adrian signed Liverpool on a free transfer. Playing from the Liverpool side he made his debut on 9th August in a 4-1 win against Norwich City.

On 14th August 2019, he conceded a penalty and was able to tie the match for Chelsea leading the match towards penalty shootout in which he again saved Abraham’s final penalty, winning Liverpool their first trophy.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Adrian received his first-call to senior Spain squad by new manager Julen Lopetegui for matches against Belgium and Liechtenstein.

CONTROVERSY

Adria penalty shootout save in the UEFA Super Cup become controversial after it was observed that he was clearly off his line before penalty save, which surrounds both Adrian and the VAR system under criticism.
