“It was my dream to hit a sweep shot off Jasprit Bumrah” Ashutosh Sharma after his superb performance

During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI), Ashutosh Sharma caught everyone’s attention. PBKS batter Ashutosh almost pulled off the heist with his 61 runs inning while chasing a mammoth target of 193 runs. Meanwhile, after his superb performance, Sharma said it was his dream to hit a sweep shot against Jasprit Bumrah.

The 25-year-old scored 61 runs off just 28 deliveries. His inning consists of 7 huge sixes and 2 elegant boundaries. PBKS started their runs chase of 193 runs with a shaky start. In the very first over, Prabhsimran Singh got out without scoring a single run. Rilee Rossouw, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran also got out cheaply, scoring just 1, 1, and runs respectively. Shashank Singh provided some stability in the middle order with 25 balls 41 runs.

Then Ashutosh Sharma came to the crease and started hitting bowlers out of the park. He not only picked easy bowlers but he also smashed world’s best bowler (Jasprit Bumrah) out of the park. He smashed a beautiful sweep shot against the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Every cricket was in awe of the right-hand batter after watching his shots. In the post-match presentation, Ashutosh Sharma said, “It was my dream to hit a sweep shot off Jasprit Bumrah. I have been practising these shots. It’s a game of cricket so it’s very common. we have to focus on our process. When I was playing I had the belief to pull off a win.”

Despite Ashutosh Sharma’s heroic performance, PBKS fell short of 9 runs. Jasprit Bumrah (3/21) and Gerald Coetzee (3/32) bowled superb spells and helped MI to restrict PBKS to just 183 runs. The match was held at PBKS’s home ground Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.

Earlier, a scintillating 78-run knock from SuryaKumar Yadav helped Mumbai Indians post a huge total of 192 runs. MI’s inning also saw some quick cameos from Tilak Varma (34 runs off just 18 balls), Tim David (14 runs off just 7 balls) and Rohit Sharma (36 runs off just 25 balls).

Now, MI has 6 points in 7 matches and stands in 7th position in the points table. Meanwhile, PBKS has won only 2 games in 7 matches and with 4 points under their belt, stands at 9th position.
