IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings beat SRH by 20 runs in a must-win encounter

Chennai Super Kings have beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs to get back to winnings ways on Monday. With this win, CSK are now placed at sixth position with 3 wins in 8 games.

For the first time in his CSK career, Shane Watson wasn’t sent bat at number three position. Sam Curran was sent up the order along with Faf du Plessis to open the innings. Having batted second in the most of the games, Chennai batted first for the first time in IPL 2020 and it reaped rewards for them. Sam Curran gave a powerful start to the side before getting out in the 5th over.

Fa du Plessis was the first one to go, however, Curran didn’t let that affect the scoring rate. Watson and Rayudu batted in the middle overs. The duo made sure there SRH couldn’t get any wicket in the middle-over period while trying to play at a decent rate.

The duo negotiated Rashid Khan’s danger quite comfortably and didn’t let him fetch any wicket. He gave away 30 runs without taking a wicket in his 4 overs. Vital cameos from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the fag end of the innings helped CSK post a competitive 167-run total in the first innings.

The bowlers in Sam Curran and Deepak Chahar bowled beautifully in the power play overs and it also led to the fall of David Warner and Manish Pandey’s wickets. Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow steadied the ship in the middle overs but weren’t able to score the odd boundaries.

The pressure slowly started building and Jonny Bairstow got out bowled by Ravindra Jadeja in the 10th over. Kane Williamson did his best and tried to take the game as deep as possible. However, runs were’s coming from the other end. Williamson got out in the 18th over of the innings after making a handy 39-ball 57. Rashid Khan did score a couple of boundaries but couldn’t help his team reach home. Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually fall short of 20 runs.
