India ODI squad for West Indies tour announced, Young bowling attack get chance

For the three-match ODI series against the West Indies in July 2023, the BCCI and the Indian selectors have announced the squad today. The three-day-night matches are going to be played on July 27, July 29, and August 1, respectively. The first two matches will be played in Barbados, whereas the last one will be played in Trinidad.

The Indian squad still has Rohit Sharma as the leader, and Hardik Pandya has been made the vice-captain of the team. Pandya is also likely to lead the team for the T20I series, which will be announced later.

The veteran fast bowler Mohammad Shami has been given rest from this West Indies tour and hence has been excluded from both test and ODI squads. There is no update on the recovery of both Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer by the BCCI. It is understood from sources that the Indian board is not rushing their recovery process as this is a World Cup year and both of these players are integral parts of the team.

Some young players, such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar, have been given a place in the team. Jaydev Unadkat has also made a comeback into the ODI team after test cricket. This series is going to be very important for the team, as right after this they will be playing in the Asia Cup and then the World Cup.

A lot of young players will be given chances in this series to showcase their talent and secure their place for the upcoming big tournaments. Shikhar Dhawan has still not found a place in the squad, and it may be a sign from the BCCI that they have moved on from Dhawan.
