Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma in race to win IPL 2023 Purple Cap

The race for IPL 2023 Purple Cap has been a 3-horse race between 3 bowlers who are playing for the same team. Perhaps for the first time in IPL history, we are seeing something like this. All of GT’s 3 main bowlers, Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma are in the race for IPL 2023 Purple cap.

They have been truly the backbone of Gujarat Titans’ splendid performance this year. The trio have shared 79 wickets between them. While Shami notched wickets during the powerplay, Rashid Khan took the onus during the middle-overs and Mohit Sharma displayed his magic towards the death overs.

Veteran Indian pacer has the ultimate edge over other bowlers and he currently has 28 wickets in 16 matches with best figures of 11 runs for 4 wickets. His Afghanistan team mate Rashid Khan is behind by just 1 wicket as he took 27 wickets in same matches as Shami.

Death specialist Mohit Sharma came late into the season but he is still up there with 22 wickets. As a matter of fact, he received promotion this year as he was a net bowler last year and this season within just 13 matches, Mohit Sharma is among the contenders to win IPL 2023 Purple Cap.

Behind the GT trio at number 4 is MI’s veteran leg spinner Piyush Chawla. Not many would have believed that the 34-year-old would produce such an impact. Although his season is already over but he took 22 wickets in 16 matches for the 5-time IPL champions.

At number 5 is last year’s Purple cap winner Yuzvendra Chahal. The Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner managed to rack up 21 wickets in 14 league appearances.
