Argentine superstar Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona FC after serving the club for 20 years. As per the media reports, he is keen to join Manchester City from his current club without paying any release clause amount.

Messi still has a contract with Barcelona till 2021 and he will be required to pay the release amount of $825 million in order to play for Manchester City.

If reports are to be believed, Pep Guardiola who is serving as the manager of Manchester City, held talks with Messi and would be delighted to have the legendary player playing for the English club.

Things are not going well for the Spanish giants from quite some time now. They received a heavy backlash from their fans after losing Spanish title to arch-rivals Real Madrid.

In the aftermath of that loss, head coach Quique Seiten was sacked immediately. As per the media reports he already had a discussion with Guardiola after that loss expressing his desire to leave Barcelona.

Messi and Guardiola enjoy each other company as they have seen the success together. Under the latter’s reign, Barcelona legend netted 73 goals to mark the end of 2011-12 season.

There are other things which might have appealed Messi to play for the English Club- one playing with his friend Sergio Aguero along with playing at the highest level in Premier League.

Other clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Inter are equally keen to get the football giant. There is no point denying that Messi has been instrumental for the Spanish club from last 20 years. In case he leaves Barcelona he will go down in history as one of the best players who played for them ever.
